Im interested in some bags which have been described as being made from high quality jute/hessian.
Can yuo tell me if this is a scratchy material?Or if it would be soft to the touch if its high quality.

Thanks

The higher quality Jute has a tighter, smoother weave than regular jute which is similar to burlap. But, it would still be stiff and scratchy. Not good for garments, but excellent for bags since it does not look like burlap.

Thanks, I may throw caution to the wind and buy some as they are quite cheap, 50p each for minimum of 10.
I just hate buying things then not using them because they arnt ideal.

Maybe you can decorate them so they won't have that utilitarian look. Jute is pretty easy to work with and strong. If you want to soften the material a little, take a pumice stone (like for feet) and rub it against the jute, going in the same direction. This will raise some of the looser fibers and give it a softer appearance and feel. Mind you, you are never going to get truly soft and drapeable out of jute.
Good luck!
