For some stupid reason my printer has now decided that it will print only what it wants to print!!!!! I have un-installed it and re-installed it three times now. When I go in to check the set-up it WILL print the test pages, just not the documents that I need. I have checked this setting and that setting at least 50 times. I have not had any problems with this before today!!!!! If anyone has a 'Puter Geek in their house ask them what else I can check. Yes it's hooked up right, the system recognizes it, just doesn't want to print!!! Windows xp, cable IP. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH |

What are application are you trying to print from? Sometimes an application e.g. Word will have it's own settings that you may have to change. Have you turned the power off waited a bit and turned it back on? (clears memory) Have you checked if there is anything showing in Start/Printers when you are trying to print? TTFN from

You will get, I promise you. Been there, done that soooo many times and then it just clicks but I don't know what to tell you right now. So sorry. I have a hint that might help some other time though. I was going through this just the other day. My printer has always worked fine and then all of a sudden I kept getting "out of paper" "out of paper" every single time. There was paper in the tray, no blockage. I checked EVERYTHING! Well, long story short, there wasn't ENOUGH paper as far as the computer was concerned. I had about 10 sheets in there and as soon as I put a stack of paper in there it worked fine. Stupid thing! Hope you've got it figured out by now. Good Luck. |

does your computer have another one set as its default printer? as Judee said sometimes you have to change it for certain (fussy) programmes, like the one I use to print photos, or did it create duplicates of your printer, I had a virus once that kept eating my USB port info and creating duplicate printers. (I had to get my computer dude to fix it for me ) hope it works!

From a former "geek" who experiences this from time to time. Shut everything OFF. Leave it off for about 30 seconds. Then turn on your printer, then your PC, and all your other accessories. It should (read "should") re-initialize everything and make your printer work correctly. How is the printer connected to the PC? Parallel cable or USB cable? Occasionally, parallel cables get "mysterious" issues. I know nothing about USB cables, so can't help on that one. I haven't worked a help desk in 8 years, so my skills are rusty. You may have already tried this, but this was always a starting point for us, when there appeared to be nothing else going on. Software programs due send signals to the printers, and sometimes they just don't clear the buffer causing problems like you are having. Good luck! Peggy

What kind of printer are you using? I had the same problem with a lexmark. I had to install the software first and then when it promted me install the printer to my computer. If I plugged it in first it loaded but wouldn't work. Also if that's not it then try this. Go into "My computer" and click on printers. Delete the printers you have in there and then reinstall the printer. Your drivers may have gotten messed up and this will delete any messed up files and reinstall them from scratch. Before you do this you need to uninstall the printer program from the uninstall place under you printer in programs. If not email me and I'll give you my phone # and I might be able to walk you through it. I'll be up a while. I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

I'm running a Canon i450. When I plugged it into the new computer HP/Cpmpaq via the USB it just found it and I didn't have to do another thing to it. I have been trying to run, Note Pad, Word Pad and Microsoft Works. All worked perfect before this mess. I have dumped the driver and unplugged the printer 3 times and the computer found it everytime I rebooted the system. I have it set as the default printer, it's the only one. I am wondering if setting it to "share printer" with the other 2 computers ( one is a Apple iBook, the other the old EMachine 98se) might have messed something up with it. We have not had either one of the other machines try to print to it yet. DS needs to download his Canon drive for Mac to his system. I will go back and reset the sharing to not share and see what it does. I still don't see how that would change anything. It printed out the diagnostic checks i ran on the printer, just not my doucuments!!!! UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH |

It found it but you have to install the software that came with the printer so you can use it with those programs. The computer found it but it still needs the drivers to run the printer with these programs. Try installing the program that came with the printer and see if that works.

That's what I thought also Susie, but it tells me that I don't need to install it by using the CD, says that it has already found it. I have tried deleting everything, shutting down the system, rebooting without the printer connected. Once I plug the printer in it finds it automatically. This is what I have done from day one and it printed, now it doesn't want to. I am doing a clean up of the system to see if maybe a file got moved someplace that it shouldn't have been moved to. MIND YOU- none of this was messed up UNTIL DS got on here the other day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got into it with him today over this. He has his own Apple Computer- he is to STAY OFF OF THIS ONE!!! |

We had two wireless laptops and a big laser printer all connected wirelessly with DSL Internet service. When we moved we had to wait two weeks for the wireless modum and bought a cord for the printer -- didn't work. Then we got the wireless modum. The printer still didn't work. It was all very frustrating until my husband sat down and started to mess around with it. It wasn't turned on. Works fine now. Dorothy |

Well I have narrowed it down to the cartridge holder for the inks. For some reason it wil not let anything from the black print but is letting the ink through. There are all these contact strips on the back and bottom of it. I will have to contact Cannon and see if there is a replacement for it. |

Sounds like your printer knows mine and DD#3's. I have resorted to using the fax machine to copy lutterloh patterns when I need em. I put the printer in the closet, told it when it was ready to behave i'd let it out.

Well I gave up and installed the printer that came with the computer when I bought it. The old one is dust in the wind. Should have gone with the new one to begin with I guess. |

I have a HP1250, it's a scanner/copier/printer and I love it! I bought a laptop from a friend and wi-fi'd it through my older Compaq and networked the printer, no problems, everything worked great! Then ... dh said the words that some wives can only dream of hearing, "You can order a new computer." "You mean I can get it built however I want?" "Yes." Which I did. I had a co-worker tell me what to order and I now have a high speed, top of the line, mega memory PC. I have wi-fi'd the laptop to it and the laptop works perfectly ... however, I can't access the printer! It's not a really bad thing, just a minor inconvenience, we just know to print from the PC and not the laptop. Kelly

Kelly I'm still waiting to hear those words from my hubby. He keeps telling me soon. I guess I'll have to just tell him the puter died because I think that's the only way he'll get a new one. He hates the puter, he's not a patience man to sit here and wait for things to come up but he loves having all this stuff at his finger tips when I come in a do it for him. He can't do without a computer but knows nothing about one not even how to turn it on. I have been handleing this one with kid gloves because it's old and it still works. It has Windows ME on it and some of the programs now won't work with ME so when the weather channel website uses something that won't work with ME and I can't pull up the radar for him then I'll get a new one. LOL I have satelite ISP and I just ordered a faster modem from them so all I need is a new computer. LOL

must be something in the water, cuz I think there are a lot of us thinking about new puters...LOL... my laptop is about 2.5 years old, which as we all know with puters, is just about the limit on the technology... I've put a new hd in it, and I've added as much memory as it is capable of handling, but I'm still not happy.... I've come to the conclusion that if you're a machine embroiderer, you're best off to buy a "gaming" computer... they usually have the best graphics cards, the most memory, and hte fastest processors... one more payment on my 6 needle machine and I'm done... maybe after Christmas I'll think about gettting myself a new laptop... hey, at least I could be payment free for a couple of months... MO life is too short, not to explore
