Tonight my bridal party outfitting drama ends with one last hook and eye. I've completed my daughter's flower girl dress, plus a wrap for her and one for the bride as well. Yesterday I got to thinking about how well everyone would be dressed and how they'd allll be warm in the cool air except for me--the lady who did all that work! So I went to the fabric store, and I took a plunge. The price would ordinarily be painful to the daughter of a frugal seamstress, BUT I feel that I have more than earned it, and so I deserve this gift to myself: It's a yd and a half of the most fabulous cashmere I have ever layed hands upon. It's black, sooo soft, and will make a nice oversized square scarf to wrap around me. Everyone else can look warm if they like, but I am going to BE warm, and feel like a queen. And I'll never have to figure out what "goes" with a formal piece again when it's time to go out. Maybe one day I'll give it some beads...who knows. Tonight, I'll give it 4 finished edges, and I'll be all set!

Congrats! We usually hear about what you've made for others...so it's good to hear about something just for you!

Good for you Andrea! You deserve it! All too often we nurture and take care of everyone else and forget about ourselves. I'm so glad you decided to treat yourself!

Yeah Andrea  Funny how we never think of how much WE deserve, only others.

Please post your candle offer in the Fabrics/Machines For Sale forum. Thank you.

You've inspired me, Andrea.
We are closing on our house today and I was looking at my swatch catalog thinking maybe I deserve something too.
My problem is, I can't make up my mind.
Red Rayon? Dark striped velvet? An olive poly/rayon crepe and the silk chiffon that matches (so beautiful)?
All of it?

Andrea, that is great! As everybody else has said, we so often forget to nurture ourselves. I think you deserve that little luxury, too!

OOOHH I am a texture person. and the thought of soft cashmere on my face is inviting. I think if you end up not liking it at a shawl you should turn it into a pillow case, LOL!! I love soft silky pillow cases, hehe! :nervous:

Andrea - I have always been convinced we need to treat ourselves as we would treat others. When I shop/make/sew for others for special occasions and have put a lot of thought and energy into it I often treat myself to little gifts I would not normally buy for myself. When my children took on partners and visited for Christmas they were initally surprised at the number of gifts under the tree from Santa. They were also surprised that Santa brought me gifts - sometimes quite generous ones, depending on how the seasonal preparation went! I think your shawl sounds wonderful and if you don't bead it perhaps treat yourself further to having someone else do it for you!

Good for you Andrea. We all deserve to treat ourselves to something very special. The cashmere sounds luscious. I usually treat myself to a new sewing book about once a month. Happy Stitching!

Good for you, Andrea! You do indeed deserve it and it will be keeping you warm for many years to come. Some beads and fringe would add a nice touch, but you can always do that when ever you like.
