Hey everyone!
Everyone's life is complicated and it's hard to find time to sew. Personally, I'm working full-time, going to school to work on the Master's degree and raising a teen-age daughter....so, finding time to sew has been a real challenge...
But recently, I reached the end of my mental rope and knew that if I didn't get some quality time with the machine, thread and fabric, someone was gonna get hurt....

I thought it would be fun if we all shared your moments of how you can tell when it's time for some quality sewing time...I'll start.

You know it's time for quality sewing time when
....you look forward to mending your hubby's shirts
....you can't wait to make shepherd's costumes for the Christmas play.
...You're thrilled that the new pair of pants you just bought need a hem!

Okay...share your "Boy I need time to sew" moments

When I seriously consider shooting the mayor at a City Council meeting I now report on for the radio.

When you are begging your D's teacher to let you sew pockets for the kids chairs.

They just moved into a smaller classroom and they dont have cubbies. I have tried real hard to get her to let me make one for each chair so they wont have to have tied on plastic bags!!

...when cobwebs and dust bunnies multiply on your sewing machine and serger... it happened to me this summer when illness prevented me from sewing for 3 months.
Happy Stitching!

For years I have been telling anyone who would listen, that "sewing is cheaper than a Pschiatrist any day of the week".. This has always been true with me.. When I feel like I'm losing my grip on reality, I know its past time for the sewing room.. I used to have to stay up late, after I put the boys to bed, to squeeze in time to sew, but now that I am retired it seems like so many things try to keep me out of there.. This machine is one of them..LOL But seriously it is the best remedy in the world for whatever ails anyone..Look at me, I'm 72 years old and still reasonably sane... LOL:bg: :bg: :bg:

I agree with Libby--sewing is definitely cheaper than a psychiatrist! LOL

I know when I need some sewing time when I start to feel like a pressure cooker about to blow up! It's usually when I'm extremely stressed and in my mind's eye, I can imagine sewing up 10 outfits in an hour--just to relieve the stress.

So do you think I could convince my insurance company to foot the bill for some new gadgets in my sewing room? I'll call it alternative therapy. HMMM. Maybe I should approach them on the subject.
I begged my hubby not to take his uniforms in to get his new stripes sewn on, just so I could have a few minutes of sewing time that I did not feel guilty for. That is my big problem now I feel guilty for putting off other things so I can sew.

This is a great topic! when my adult sons were little they used to check me out and say, Mommy, you need to sew. And, so true. Sewing really relieves the stresses that otherwise build up. Also, we need to sew when we can't find our sewing machine, which recently had happened to me during a stressful time. It was in there though, safely under the dust bunnies. thanks to you all, and Hubby's encouragement, it's off and running!

When I spend 98% of my day (while at work) on Sew-Whats-New reading about sewing!! HAHA! If I can't BE sewing, at least I can READ about it!!!

I've been out with friends the past two nights, and tonight I'll probably "have" to spend time with my neglected (for the past two nights) boyfriend...which means AWAY from my precious machines and wonderful fabric I recently ordered...OH HOW I'M TORN!

The thing is we need a creative outlet - being it sewing, crafting, painting flower arranging or whatever. I think the urge to create is a basic fundamental human need - why else would primitive men on the brink of starvation/subsistance farming have taken the time to decorate their pottery?

when I start feeling overwhelmed with everything on my plate-some of which I've gotten myself into. Even when it's too much sewing, I've discovered that an evening sewing is better therapy than anything else in the world!

When going to Hancock's doesn't interest me and I would rather go to my sewing room and be left alone for the evening to sew.

..... when you are digging around in your sewing notions and you find a gadget that you don't remember what it is or what it's for :nc:

..... you receive a newsletter from your fabric club and you delete it without even opening it (not even out of curiosity)

..... the top shelf in your fabric closet is starting to fail (mine actually is :nervous: )

I know it's time to sew when my boyfriend tosses a pair of raggedy pants at me and whines "Fix these." and I don't even complain. The last pair were pj bottoms and the seat was so worn I cut that out and put a flap on them with buttons high enough to not bother him when he sits or lays down. No, the trap door does not match but he was amused and pleased his comfy pants were once again wearable.

That other stuff will still be there when you've finished sewing therapy. So, don't feel guilty. Your husband probably puts off stuff so he can do things he likes. No fair if you don't get to, also!
