I'm trying to make a cardigan out of a sweatshirt. I removed the cuffs and bottom, then sliced the front and it looked so good I thought I would give the neckline a try. Big mistake! It became too big. So now I want to put the neckline back together. I do not use a serger, just a regular machine. Where can I find information about how this reassembles? |

You can add some clear elastic or stay tape to stabilize the neckline. Also, to take in the side seams run a zigzag stitch along the sides from the armholes to the bottom. If you don't, it will almost look as if the back is stretched out of shape. Happy Stitching! Marty It takes one moment to change a life.

You can also use bias tape on the neckline and sleeves. I have a pattern for a converted sweatshirt and you leave the pattern as sits - just cut 2 inches off the sleeves and bias tape the rest. You will wind up with boat neck. Save the time of hunting for matching ribbing! Weezy |

When I change the neckline in a sweat shirt I use the cut off ribbing from the hem, I trim it to 1.5" I measure around the cut neckline, cut the ribbing minus 1 inch, turn right sides of the ribbing in and sew the ends shut, turn right sides back out and pin on stretching slightly, zig-zag the 2 ribbing layers to the right side of the sweatshirt, press, then top stitch on the right side. Good Luck on your project! Teri
