My name is Andrea. I just turned 21 years old. I have been sewing for about 7 years. I am mostly self taught and love to make costumes. Back at home (I moved from Wisconsin to NY when I was 18) I have a bunch of Medieval and formal dresses I've made, and out here I am focusing on dancewear and lingerie. I hope to start school at the Fashion Institute of Technology sometime in the next few years (I'll be starting at a local college then transfer)....fingers crossed!! I am an Executive Assistant full time and I also GoGo dance at danceclubs (I dance on platforms to add ambiance to the club - nothing I wouldn't do if my grandmother was there LOL). I hope to own my own costume/lingerie business someday

Jan here, near Cambridge, England. I like to keep all the foreigners on their toes! I have 2 daughters, one recently married, who are both at Uni. I work in a Middle School(ages 11-14) in science. Been sewing since I was 11 and knitting about the same time.
Have caught the quilting bug though I only manage about 1 a year - my ever loving hubby thinks that is too many! Otherwise I like garment sewing and knitting for babies(adults are just too big).
love and kisses, Jan

Hi! I'm Desiree, 28, temporarily from Wisconsin, but my home is Alaska. Hubby is in the Coast Guard and our turn to move is coming up next year. I am a stay-at-home-mom to 3 busy kidlets, a dog and a cat.

I have been sewing off and on for about 6 years, mostly quilting but trying clothes now. I also like knitting and crocheting.

Nice to meet everyone!

Hello, Lennie (actually Valentina) here. Quite new to the site but an active participant. I really enjoy the ladies, the wealth of information available, and the non-sewing chit chat.

I've been 50 since last April and not loving it but not letting it bother me either. I have a wonderful second husband (married for 10 years), daughter, 25, step daughter, 28, son, 24 this month, stepson 26. :bg: No grandkids and the chances aren't great for any in the future. :nc: No biggie. We have 3 dogs and 4 cats and they're our family when we don't see the kids.

I've been sewing since I was 12 and lately have taken it up with a vengence. I have a great embroidery machine that's so much fun and stick to smaller projects. A lot of my work is for the local dog groomer. I make totes, beds, clothing, bandanas, jackets, etc. I justify the ridiculousness of making clothes for animals by donating at least 10% of my gross to animal charities! I'd have a hard time doing it otherwise. Have to say it's really fun work. :bg:

I knit too but stick to the small stuff for the same reason Jan mentioned. It's just more fun.

Hi, I am Nancy. I am a retired RN. I retired 3 years ago from a long career in nursing education. I live in north central BC, but most people consider it northern BC as 'there is no hope north of Hope'. I lived 1/2 my life near the Pacific Ocean thus have 'webbed feet'. I have degenerative joint disease in many joints. I am divorced and have been happily single again as long as I was married. I have 2 adult children (daughter 35 + son 36), who unfortunately, live Toronto and Montreal. I had my first grandchild just over a month ago - an adorable little boy. I have been sewing ever since I could hold a needle as my much loved and missed grandmother was a dressmaker. I can crochet and knit, but don't like the sensation of the wools through my fingers, though I do like hand sewing. I sew clothing, primarily for myself, but now my gs. I quilt. Many many project always on the go. I read a great deal. Unfortunately I spend more time reading and thinking about what I am making and time on the computer than I actually do sewing!! More discipline coming up! :bolt:

I'm Kelly. I'm 29. I was a chemical engineer; now I'm a stay-at-home mom. I've been sewing since I was 8 or so - but only dabbling. I picked it up again after my oldest was born, about five years ago. I sew almost every day now.

I also blog (http://kelly.hogaboom.org/), sew, knit, craft with my kids - 4 1/2 year old Sophie and 2 1/2 year old Nels.

I try to post my sewing at my sew blog (http://kelly.hogaboom.org/tutorials/).

Great new board idea, Mary!

Hi I am in Texas and enjoy sewing. I have just taken it up again but started when I was in high school. Seems like a million years ago. I have 3 grown children and 2 wonderful grandkids. I have started to sew for them now. I have a wonderful husband and we will be married 3 years this December. We are currently raising 3 of his grandkids (9,10, and 11) which is a new challenge every day. I also enjoy crocheting and am wanting to get an embroidery machine so bad. Working on that next. I love to quilt but have just started it. I sometimes do flowers for the family since I use to work in a florist shop. Stay busy with a full time job at the county tax office. I love to read everyone's ideas and enjoy getting new ideas and helpful information on every thing. Really enjoy this.

Hi everyone! My name is Kaitlin, and I'm 23 years old. I'm a medical student at Wisconsin. I got married this summer, and we bought a house where I have my own sewing/craft room! Now if only I could get all of the boxes out so I could use it. :re: I learned how to sew in middle school, but I hadn't done much with it until last year when I decided to make my wedding dress. Even though I've gotten through that big project, I'm still learning some of the basics. Welcome to all the new people! You'll like it here.

I'm 46, been married 28 years, have 2 daughters (23 & 16). My first memory of sewing was at about 10, then I had a home ec class in middle school, and took a class or two in high school & night school. I am mostly self-taught (even though my mother can sew like a dream, she would always tell me, "Read the instructions and figure it out." (some things never get buried:nc: )), anyway, I have learned a lot from the ladies here, whether it's a question I have asked, or just read and thought, "Oh! That's a nifty idea!" I really love this forum and the ladies here get more and more important to me every day.

Hi all. I'm 46 married for 21 yrs with a 20 year old DS. We live in Northern Illinois, DS is a junior at Carthage College in Kenosha. I've been sewing since junior high - mostly clothing & costumes (I'm a Polynesian dancer). Right now I'm working on tote bags for fundraisers for our dance group. I like most things crafty - my mom taught me to crochet & do embroidery when I was young, started doing paper crafts about 7 years ago & learned to knit about a year & a half ago. I work full time in admissions in a community mental health center but like to get my hands busy doing something at night.

Hi everyone! I'm 52, divorced x22 years, live in Phoenix, AZ, originally from PA. I'm an RN, have 3 grown children, 3 wonderful grandchildren and a 4th on the way (due the end of Nov.). I have been sewing and crafting for as long as I can remember-I remember starting to do stuff around age 5 so it's been quite a few years. I mostly sew for the grands and my daughter, have gotten into quilting in the past few years and don't get to do it as often as I'd like. I also crochet some, hand embroider a little and computer craft a fair amount. I have 3 sewing machines, a serger and am looking into embroidery machines. Lately I've been sewing mostly for the new grandbaby.

Welcome to all the newbies!!

I used to dabble in sewing here and there, and then took it seriously after my daughter was born, 2001. I see I'm not the first to say that, and I guess there must be something to taking on a personal challenge that is meaningful and creative and makes good use of some of the sections of the brain that get squishy during childrearing. I like to make sure I'm learning something new each time I start a project. I've recently learned I procrastinate and then burn the midnight oil a little too often (hemming in the hotel the night before the event, anyone?). I'm a speech language pathologist with fleeting notions of returning to work, but what's the rush?

Hi everyone,
I am the old lady of the group I think – I am 68 (but still going strong). I do not remember when I did not sew. I have been into everything from my own wedding dress through clothes (including suits) for our 4 sons and now into stuff for grandchildren. The most fun I have tho is with my “job” as costumer for out church Boar’s Head Festival. It is a medieval presentation involving 12th/13th Century costumes as well as Nativity costumes. I have over 175 costumes in the wardrobe – I have made most (but not all) of them. It is a chance to be creative and oh the fun of shopping for the fabrics and staying within a tight Lutheran budget! I should have more time for it now as I recently retired as Office Manager and Bookkeeper for Chicago area property management firm.
I am new to this forum but will enjoy all of your great ideas.

Hi! I'm new to this forum, but have already enjoyed learning from all of you.
I am 63 years old and a widow now. My husband of 43 years died of cancer just 8 months ago. I had retired from a 32-year teaching career only two months before he died, after learning that his condition was terminal. Needless to say, my entire life has had several major changes within this past few months.
I have two daughters who are grown. One is married with two children (a boy and a girl) and the other daughter has been divorced for several years now.
I have been sewing (self taught after our daughters were born) for about 40 years now, although I must admit that my love of sewing has really been rekindled since the birth of my little grandchildren! It is so much more fun to sew for little ones than for myself. (It's especially fun to sew for little girls.) I do plan to sew more for myself in the near future.
I love learning all I can about sewing and have picked up several great ideas here. You ladies are so helpful, and I look forward daily to visiting this forum.
This is a great idea for us to introduce ourselves, Mary!

Hi. Just this newsgroup yesturday and am just getting around to introducing myself. I have been receiving the newsletter for over a year and have learnt many things from it.

I am acadian, as you can see.....no, not cajun.....reside in Nova Scotia, celebrated 20 yrs of marriage to my best friend and soulmate this past June. Have 2 daughters, aged 14 and soon to be 18. I usually go by the name Gis, short for Gisele

I have been sewing since I can remember but seriously got into it when my oldest was born. Loved making all those wonderful dresses for her. From there, I kinda ventured into dance costumes when my girls started to take step-dancing lessons. I now am a seamstress for a dance troup of girls aged 8 to 18 that perform in public.

My other crafts include, just returning to cross stitching (on a serious manor) and thaught my oldest in summer of 2005 so we often find ourselves stitching together during the evenings.

I also still sew and do quilts. Am also teaching my oldest to sew. She is definately taking after her mom unlike her younger sister who is into sports.

My grandma thaught me to knit at age of 8 and still love it.

I work nights only as a care worker in a senior's home. Not many get to say that they can snooze on the job. I am one of them and have been there for the past 13 yrs.

I also have online albums for those who wish to check them out.

Am looking forward to meeting and getting to know all of you. If some of you are from Nova Scotia or the Halifax metro area, we travel to the transplant clinic often as my husband received his 2nd liver transplant on July 13.

Hi, guys!

Most of you may "know" me. I am a 54 year old "Okie". I live about 20 miles from downtown OKC in the "country" which is rapidly developing. We live in the house my parents built as newlyweds and I grew up in. I come from a long line of teachers. My degree is in home ec education (now called domestic engineering or something like that) with special emphasis in clothing construction. I worked 15 years for the Hertz Corp on the computer side of marketing research/fleet planning for indivual locations/divisions (loved it).

I am the mother of boy/girl twins who just turned 19, one at OSU, and one working in electricity; and a 22 year old daughter who is a respiratory therapist currently in Tx. I also have a 4 yr old granddaughter.

I enjoy sewing, piano, vocal music, knitting, crochet, reading, and COOKING! I collect cook books. We have 3 large parrots (gray (Gabby), yellow nape (Jerry) and a blue and gold maccaw (Gitcha). We also have a mini schnautzer and a I recently became "grandma" to a live in 5 yr old English bull dog.

I just recently went through a major change with my oldest moving to Tx, away from home and my babysitting, and my youngest going to college. My son still finds a way home to sleep, eat and have his laundry done.

Hi! I'm Belinda and I'll be 50 this month. Hubby and I recently moved from Dallas, Texas to Northern Virginia. We had lived in Dallas for a little over 10 years; my home state is Arkansas. Moving to Northern Virginia allowed me to meet Andrea and her beautiful daughter, which is quite an honor--and lots of fun!:bg:

I learned to sew in 7th grade, but then my mom sent me to a so called "sewing school" and I had such a horrible experience there that I quit sewing until I was about 35 years old. My youngest daughter was 5 and I wanted to learn to hand smock. My friend who taught me told me that I needed to learn to sew and that began my sewing addiction. It is so much fun to sew for little girls!

While in Dallas, I sewed for some churches--children's costumes for musicals, and I taught beginning sewing out of my home. Now, I sew mostly for the grandkids; I'm beginning to do some quilting, and eventually I'd like to sew for myself, but those kids are just so much fun to sew for!:bg:

My name's Lee Ann, and I moved last year from New England to Maryland. I'll be 43 next month (ick), and have been remarried for 3 years to a great guy. His son is a Marine, and we're really proud of him.

I've got a great sewing room all set up, but haven't sewn a thing. :-( I'm not sure why.

I also knit, crochet, cross-stitch, needlepoint.

I'm a secretary by day, and dance teacher at night.

I have a 3 hour daily commute by train, the perfect time to do some stitching, but haven't done a thing since last year. I'm not sure why.

I sure could use some inspiration!

All the best,
Lee Ann:USA:

I thought I posted my introduction before, but I don't see it:

I am Katherine McCrea a custom clothier and owner of Black Cat Originals. I live in Phoenix, Arizona and as a result of the heat am most active at night much like everything else around here.
I have been a tailor and custom clothier for over 20 years and truly enjoy what I do. I opened the online store of Black Cat Originals so I could sell my accessories and handbags to a wider clientele. The custom clothing is limited to the Phoenix metro area. I started making the handbags and totes because my clients wanted an accessory to match their new clothes or for a special occasion. All of my work is individually designed and custom made, I have never been able to make the exact same thing twice!
If you have some time go to Black Cat Originals and sign my guest book!
Have a great day,
Katherine McCrea

Good Afternoon Ladies, It looks like I posted my introduction to the wrong Title also. I thought we were to post our introduction to "Introduce Yourself". :nc: My mistake. My name is Dianne and I live in the south eastern part of Alabama. I am thrilled to see the wide range of ages and knowledge offered by everyone. Since I have already posted my introduction, I won't take up space reiterating. I look forward to sharing ideas and to be inspired by everyone.
Mary this was a great idea. Thanks for your time, effort, and knowledge.

I am Amy Polonsky, a part time stay at home mom of a 5 year old boy and 11 month old girl twins. :bluesmile :bluesmile :bluewink: I work as a pediatrician in a local emergency room to pay for my sewing habit. I learned to sew about 3 years ago and was taking weekly classes at G Street Fabrics in Rockville, MD. I am taking a break from sewing due to twin related exhaustion (They are not yet walking in two directions, but that is coming soon.), but have kept up my sewing related reading, and have had my eye on the various different sewing discussion groups, to continue to keep up on my interest. I have set a date with myself in November, when I will start again. Little toddler twin dresses, or maybe something for me coming up....:dave: I will post my progress. Thank you for being my virtual sewing community.

Amy, I used to put my twins in the stroller and take them into a store. The first stroller was a double wide. That didn't last long...you couldn't go anywhere...then there was the TRAIN stroller. They would lean out on each side of the stroller and just fill the thing with all kinds of things. I'd have to frisk them before we left stores. It is a wonder that I didn't go to jail but we always managed to get things back into place. So...I ran across these neat harnesses and thought that they wouldn't be able to stuff things, they would be happier because they were more mobile and would tire out (good)...so I put the harnesses on them in the middle of a busy shopping mall. The first thing that happened is that they crossed the straps and hyperextended everything behind me....I couldn't move because there was a big flower pot behind me and I was twisted...they were on the FLOOR crawling behind me and away as hard as they could. I couldn't let go for fear that the rebound would break their teeth. We stood like this for about 20 min until my husband came to the rescue...I could resist telling you this story because you are right, they are going to get pretty active. The fact that one of mine would climb displays while the other ran crazy down the aisles away from me is another story all together. Good luck with your little ones! I'd tell you that each age gets easier, but it doesn't...then there is driving and dates to look forward to....

Well I guess I goofed too because I posted in another spot first. Here goes for everyone that don't know me.

I'm Susie Moore, and I live in Kentwood La you know where Ms Brittney Spears is from. I'm actually a Hurricane Katrina evacuee and before the hurricane I lived in Chalmette, LA in the now famous St Bernard Parish that was wiped off the map with a 20 ft wall of water on that fretfull day in Aug 2005. But I am a fighter so I've moved on with my life and things are getting better every day.

I am 54 years old soon to be 55 in Dec. I'm married to my high school sweetheart for the last 36 years, we have 3 sons and 2 grandsons and 5 granddaughters and another granddaughter due this month on the 25th. I've been sewing since...... I guess around 8 or 9. That's too long ago it might have been earlier because my mother use to sew also. When I worked out of the house I was an assistant to the bookkeeper in an engineering office in the French Quarters of New Orleans. I also kept the books for two home based businesses my family owned and my husband and I owned. Today I'm just MawMaw and Mama.

For all the newbies here, This is one of the best places to spend your free time. Not only do you learn everything you need to know about sewing from these ladies but............you will not find another place as loving as this place here. Just stick around you will find out for yourself.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Hello everyone! I don't post much except for on the sewing for childrens board. I should expand a bit and get to know you all!

My name is Wendy. I live in a Northwest Suburb of Chicago IL. I am 36 and married for 5 years to a wonderful man who let's me take over the kitchen table with my sewing and crafts. I have a dd who is nearly 3.5, Katelyn. And a 4 month old ds, Wyatt. I learned to sew about a year and a half ago when I wanted to start making dresses for dd. I took a class from a woman in her home and have taught myself a lot as well. I have tons more to learn. I've taken a bit of a break since ds was born but hope to get back into it more soon, I have so many ideas that I want to try!

I also love to crochet, I was taught by my Great Grandmother when I was very young. I've recently taught myself to knit but haven't done anyting more than a hat. I also enjoy scrapbooking (am waaayyy behind), and doing crafts with dd:smile:

Hello all and glad to get to know you. My name is Patsy a/k/a plrlegal. I've been a member of this Board for (how many years now Mary??) I'm 64 soon to be 65 (yeah!!! finally retirement!!!). I live in an eastern suburb of Oklahoma City (the "Heartland"). I am married to the love of my life for the second time (12-1/2 years this time and 14 years the first time). I was single and loved it for 20 years from 1974 until 1994 during which I lived in sunny West Palm Beach, Florida. I moved to Oklahoma when dh and I remarried in 1994. I have been a legal secretary since 1978 and have spent the last 9 + years employed by the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office as a legal secretary. I am looking forward to retirement at the end of August, 2007, although my immediate supervisor says she is not signing off on anything for me to retire. Currently (tomorrow, our litigation division is moving into the new building that has been built for the Attorney General and his entire staff. To date, the AG office has been spread out in several locations throughout the city. Our AG is a really nice man and has done a wonderful job for the State in the two terms (8 years) that he has been in office and will hopefully be re-elected for his 3 term in office. He knows all of his employees by name and when he does a tour of the office, he stops and speaks to everyone and insists that we all call him by his first name although several of us call him "General" which he loves. Anyway, I've been sewing since I was 15 and learned to sew in my paternal grandmother's Singer treadle machine. I now own 5 sewing machines and a serger. My DH aids, abets and encourages my addictions. I both garment sew and quilt. This Board has a great quilting teacher (although we here from here infrequently these days to to the fact that she's recuperating from a very, very major surgery. Hope you're doing better everyday Jo.) This is the best Board on the web, bar none. I've belonged to a couple of others where people snipe at one another, etc. and I'm so glad there is none of that on this board. Thanks Mary for keeping it that way.Stay tuned in to the site because we cry, laugh and learn a lot together.

HI, everyone, my name is Laura. I live outside of Atlanta, GA. Born, raised and love it here. I haven't posted much yet, but love to read the postings. Almost as if I know so many of you already. I agree with what I've read, this is a wonderful, caring site. I thought I had talent until I read you guys!

I am 50 years old - I find it hard to believe - I come from a long line of seamstresses. My first recollection of sewing goes back to age 6 or 7 (hand sewing sock dolls and their clothes and clothing for trolls) and then moving on to clothing for myself (My first 4-H project was a full skirt out of blue gigham in the fourth grade - I was mortified to find all the other girls showed up in A-line skirts. I'm sure that simple skirt was the beginning of my compulsive/obsesive need for plaids and stripes to line up perfectly in clothing I sew as well as clothing I buy.) I was a sewing freak in junior and high school and loved watching American Bandstand in the 60-70's to see what's hot in NYC and LA and then be the first in ATL to make and wear it. I also love it that all the new trends my daughter is into, I've been there and sewn that.)

I have been married 28 years and have a married son 24 yrs and a daughter 15. Unfortunately, at this time, she's not into sewing. I enjoy sewing for sewings sake and have done a lot of contract sewing (clothing, costumes, home decor, etc.). Would like to put some stuff up for sale on the web (and will probably get around to posting some questions fore those that do). I've also dappled in needlepoint, cross point, crewel, quilting, embroidery, and pretty much anything that involves fabric and thread.

I've spent the last few years focused on self-taught upholstery (there's something to be said about taking classes), and to my family's dismay have a basement full of vintage chairs/sofas waiting to be done (a Craigs List addiction). However, I now find myself itching to sew more clothing. My other loves in life (besides family) are reading and gardening - I just love playing in the dirt.

At the moment I can only read you guys here at work (I'm a paralegal with an IP firm) as my DD (dear daughter?) abused her IM and computer privileges last year and we cancelled our IP service at home. We'll rectify that soon and then I hope to get to know you guys better.

Hello!
My name is Stephanie! I just turned 24 years old and I live in Central Arkansas. I sew, embroider, and quilt.
I like creating my own patterns and designs that are not your average everyday things, however I love traditional pieces too. I'll be married to my husband Todd, for two years next month. I sew all of the time...and I'm a project runway junkie. I have a serger & an embroidery machine that Im learning how to use right now. Which is so time consuming...and I just learned how to knit too.
I am opening an online store to launch sometime this year that I'll post about in the appropriate board when it opens. It's very exciting and I hope it will expand from there. I have 2 kitties, and no children (yet).
I've read this board and been a lurker for over a year now and decided to join yesterday when I saw this post.
I hope to post and learn lots here.
May your bobbin always be full-
Stephanie

Hi:
I'm Michelle, a SAHM to three adorable children (two princes and my darling princess). I've only been sewing for two months because the price of custom clothing is outrageous and I was determined that I could do it myself. So far, I have two t-shirt dresses and a jumper under my belt.

I'm from New Hampshire and am looking forward to meeting all of you.

Hello Everyone, my name is Marty (short for Margaret) and I've been sewing since the age of 7 (?) when I used newspapers to make patterns for doll clothes. I come from a long line of seamstresses and feel as if I was born to sew. I've been married for almost 36 years and have one DD who just turned 18. I homeschool and sew for relaxation and personal enjoyment. Back in the mid-70's I took a tailoring course at the university but have forgotten a lot thru the years. I'm an avid collector of sewing books and have some going back to 1912 from the Women's Institute of Domestic Arts and Science. I also enjoy hand embroidery and photography plus reading. I'm also a member of the American Sewing Guild and helped launch the first chapter in our state.

Five years ago I retired from the Dept of Children's Services after a series of heart failures. I had been employed by them for over 26 years working with foster care children. It was a major life adjustment as was going into a wheelchair for mobility.

It's nice to meet everyone. Happy Stitching!

Hi.
My name is Linda and I live in Brockton, MA. I am disabled, so I enjoy crafting and other stay at home projects. My kids are grown, but now I have a granddaughter who is 3. Her birth inspired me to start sewing again. Since I was never very good at it, it is a real challenge to try hard and teach myself! My machine will do embroidery, so that has become my new passion. It is so much fun to create a beautiful design.

This web site is wonderful--I have learned a lot from all of you.! Linda

Hello, My name is Stephi and Im a Sew A Holic.

I have been sewing since I was about 10 and once I get on a project I can not stop until it is done. Done can be a finished product or something that has been scrapped due to high irritation levels, LOL. I have a 5yo daughter and a son due in february 07. I am also dislexic and am constantly going back to fix my typing :-)

I've always been a bit ADHD I think. I am just driven to get a project done but if I don't finish it within a short amount of time it takes almost all I have to go back and finish it. I hate being interrupted for anything once I've started something.

OK, my turn.
My name is Maureen, I'm 41 and have been married for a little over 4 years. I have a 3.5 year old dd who is a real challenge (she's waaaaay too smart for her age). Anyone who meets her says that she looks nothing like me and is the spitting image of my dh. The only way she resembles me is her gender.
I sewed a few things when I was in 4-H but not too much after that since my mom didn't like to sew. I didn't take classes except Home Ec. when I was in high school and not too much more after that since I wasn't very good at sewing.
I decided to try again after my dd was born. I've sewed some things for her and made some bags that I've sold.
We moved from Northern New Jersey to South Ft Myers, FL at the end of June. I am an Operating Room nurse so am in bed very early (I get up around 4:30am). I wish I had more time to sew (and take sewing classes) but anytime I sit at my sewing machine 3 hours go by too quickly and I get to bed at a late hour, and barely make it into work on-time. So I haven't sewn too much since I need my job! This is the way things are going to be for a little while and I may have to put sewing off until the weekends when my dd is taking a nap.
I check the boards as often as I can! Thanks Mary for bringing up the "Introduce yourself" thread again!
- Maureen.

Wow, go away for a week and come back to a new and improved board. Thanks Mary for all you hard work.

My name is Brockie, yup, real name. I'm 55, married 36 yrs next month to my best friend. Retired nurse. Have 3 grown children (2 girls, boy) and 5 grands (2 girls, 3 boys). Oldest daughter recently remarried (we had 2 days notice). Have been sewing for over 45 years, mostly garments for the entire family. Dad taught me to sew and Mom taught me knitting. I'm a self taught crocheter. Have done x-stitch but arthur(itis) won't allow it any longer. Currently am doing a lot of knitting, getting the grands ready for winter. Arthur is yelling at me but at least I can hold the needles!

Hello! I tend to do more lurking than posting, but I figured I'd introduce myself anyway. :)

My name is Amanda. I'm 25, and I live in Tallahassee, Florida, with my husband of nearly 4 years. We don't have any kids. I do, however, have 100 middle schoolers each weekday - I teach social studies and math at a small Christian school. :)

My sewing skills are pretty much limited to quilting, though I'd love to learn more. I started quilting during my first year of marriage and have been hooked ever since. I also do cross stitch and quilling, and I taught myself to knit but haven't done a whole lot of it.

Nice to meet you all!

My name is Cassi, I am a 27 year old working mother of a sassy 3 year old. I have been handsewing items for a while. On bedrest I made her a baby quilt (which ended up the size of a toddler bed). It wasn't till I found the boutique world on ebay, that I thought of sewing seriously. I should a picture of one of the outfits to my Grandmother (the real sewer in the family) and she told me she could make it, and she did. So I thought I would give it a try to. (I just posted my first try on the twirl skirt post).

I want to say thank you for being so generous with your ideas and knowledge, this site has helped me alot.

Hello from rural Pennsylvania. My name's Pam and I'm 40 coming up on 41 in a couple months. Married for 21 yrs w/2 teenaged sons. The testosterone is so thick I can cut it w/a knife!

Been sewing since I was about 13. I love it! I thought I knew how to sew until I got hired on at a tailoring shop about 2 1/2 yrs. ago.:whacky: It opened up a whole new world! I found out about machines I didn't even know existed. Love the blindstitch. And who knew that a single edge razor blade would be my "must have" sewing tool? I'd be lost without it. No more seam rippers baby!!!

I'm now in the process of staying at home and doing alterations and sewing here. No more commuting. It was a 40 min. drive one way to work. Winter was the worst.

When I'm not sewing, I love to read. I also love auctions and pick up some cool fabrics and sewing gear once in a while. I buy "this and that" too to resale in an antiques and collectibles shop where I rent a space.

This is a cool site. I like to pop in and read what others are talking about. I also like to see the projects that get posted. Always fun to see what everyone else is up to. And it was interesting to read all the messages in this thread. Looking forward to more.

Brockie: Go to Wal-Mart, Walgreen's, etc. and pick you up some Aper Creme. I swear by it and use it nightly on my poor aching hands and fingers. I run a computer all day for the Oklahoma AG's litigators and then I go home and sew half the night most days. Anyway, the Asper Creme will work wonders on your aching fingers and maybe chase "Arthur" away for a few hours. I told a lady in our local quilt guild who is a master hand quilter/appliquer about Asper Creme and she has fallen in love with it. Zola is probably in her later seventies and has never done anything but hand quilting and needle turn applique. She was about to give it up because she has arthritis in her fingers but I told her about Asper Creme and she says she has a renewed quilting life now and is once again teaching at a local quilt shop.

Patsy

P.S. Welcome to all you ladies/gentlemen who are joining the board or have come out of hiding to introduce yourselves. You'll love our little cyber sewing community.

I'm mainly a quilter but am just now getting into garment sewing, and enjoy home decor sewing as well. I'm the luck owner of 2 Berninas, and have a new serger on order. Don't ask where I fit all this stuff  LOL.

I live in a "bedroom community" to Akron, Canton and Cleveland. I'm married 26 yrs this Dec and have a DD age 25 and DS age 21, and a SIL age 26. I can't forget the 3 furballs. And 2 furball grandkitties. And now a pet RAT!!!
I have been sewing since age 7 learning from my mom who made EVERYTHING!!! Started out making doll clothes and worked my way up to people clothing. I made many outfits for both kids while they where ( and still are ) growing up as well as myself. Before I retired I was a Industrial Seamstress, where my range was from childrens clothing to making Orthopedic Support Products for a local company that has since been sold and moved to Kansas.
I have my Sears White machine that my parents gave me for my 21st B'day, my Sears Computerized Machine, Serger and Brother Embroidery Machine. I have been working for the last month helping a local teacher get her Purse Business up and running by sewing products for her. And helping her learn the Industrail ropes of the sewing business. I have also tried my hand at Quilting, Knitting, Cross Stitch, Needlepoint and various other crafts.
I was also the Uniform Chairperson for thr High School Band when both kids where in school. When DD married her old bedroom bacame my sewing room, and I have outgrown it!!!!
I have been here for around 3 years now and love this place. It really is home here.

OK so I forgot to Introduce myself. Will you guys ever forgive me for my horrible faux pas and bad manners.

I am Sherri most people call me Sher. I am from the NWT of Canada. Yes it is cold no I don't live in a igloo. I am 30 :bang: married with two kids. My son is 9 and my daughter will soon be 8. I work part time as a Teachers assitant for playschool. Three and Four year olds. But am formally trained as a Computer Systems Analyst.

I have been on Sew Whats NEw for a bunch of years (I don't Know 5/6). I have been sewing since I was 5 or maybe 6 when my mom and grandmother decided I really shopuld learn some useful skills. I sew a lot of different things from figure skating costumes and gymnastic leotards to kids clothes and shooting back stops for my husband.

I also have just recently re taken up crochet. But I am slow and not very good. So I don't brag much about it.

When not posting or sewing or working you can usually find me at my kids schools volunteering, watching my kids at the rink or the pool or spending nearly endless hours arranging events for our local figure skating club.

It is so nice to get to know everyone. My name is Susan and I assume everyone guessed that I have 2 DD's. One is an 18 y/o college freshman and the youngest will be 14 in 10 days (as I am reminded in the daily countdown). She is in the 8th grade. Like Pam and Patsy I am an Okie - I live south of OKC in Sooner land - Norman. (By the way aren't we supposed to have an Okie lunch soon) I am 38 years old - originally from Mississippi. DH and I will celebrate our 19th this November. He was Navy so we have been all over before we settled here in OK, don't ever plan to leave either. I work for an endoprosthetic company and love it. I started learning to sew from my mother right after my first DD was born. She was an incredible seamstress - smocking, crocheting, knitting - you name it. She even tatted most all her own lace. But my mom passed away before I learned much and I did not touch it again until a year or so ago. Now I am teaching myself as I go - mostly thanks to this board. I actually found this board when I was looking for my first machine and I don't even know that I would have gone through with the initial purchase without all the encouragement here. I am really enjoying sewing for my greatnieces and some other little kiddos from around here.

By the way Patsy - one of my closest friends will soon be working with you. She is in law school and got an intrenship, clerkship, or something with the AG and is supposed to start as soon as you all get settled in. Let's all sing "it's a small world..."

And lets get together SOON(er) for our lunch before the holiday craze hits. I need to ease some fabric and am having trouble so I wanted you and Pam each to take a side and stretch it for me while I stitch it. LOL!!!!

Hi! My name is Becky,52 years old, and I live in South Central PA.. Somerset County to be exact..not far from where the Flight 93 memorial is. You can tell by my name that I'm a "military mom"...I have a son who just got out of the Marines, a daughter who recently got out of the Navy, and a step son who is in the Air Force. I'm a retired Psych nurse and now work part time in a family practice office. I just started sewing again a few years ago when my friend got me started...but then she moved away so I'm on my own now! Darn! I have a sewing machine, a serger, and an embroidery machine which I LOVE. I sew a lot of pj pants and make tote bags which I embellish with some embroidery. I'm a fabric freak and can't seem to get enough..drives hubby nuts! He made me a great sewing room with lots of cupboards and drawers and they're about full but that doesn't stop me from collecting...I'm sure you all know THAT feeling! I enjoy this board a lot and have learned so much. I appreciate all the ladies and their expertise and willingness to share their ideas and skills.
It's nice to see and read this intro board! As the others say..."great idea, Mary"

Hello,
My name is Donna and I am new...I'm looking at buying a sewing/embroidery machine and found this site that looks to have a lot of helpful information. I'm married with two children (boy 6, girl 5) so thought it would be neat to do some fun things for them as well as make gifts for Grandparents and everyone.
Embroidery...my soon to be new hobby! -- Donna

Wow! We've been needing a psyc nurse! Welcome to the crew!

Yeah....my years as a psych nurse while raising my teenagers sure did come in handy! :bang: ...felt like a 24/7 job at times but it was all worth it! They're great kids!

Susan your friend will really like our new building. They are still working on it, especially the big bosses' side and the grounds but the Litigation Section is all settled in and working our behinds off, as usual. Yes, all of the okies do need to schedule a get together before the holiday madness descends here in OKC, especially. I'm ready whenever everyone else here in the great wide open plains is. Are we all hoping for another "Florida Winter" like we had here in OK country last year?

Oh yes - I am definately one to vote for another mild winter - and that is what they are predicting. Yippee!! Lets get in touch with Pam and any other sooner sewers and get together. I think east OKC area would probably be most convenient, but I am not particular. Or depending on you lunch schedule - one day in downtown.

Hi, I am new to this board. I sew just about anything and everything. I am a mom of 2 wonderful kiddos. One is 8 a son with Autism and a very typical 4 year old little girl. That is always wanting to sew. I have two machines a sewing machine and an embroidery machine. I love to make things for children. Embroidery has become my passion. I have just recently started selling the items that I digitize myself. Mostly Cute Alphabets and fonts.

I look forward to getting to know everyone and learning many new tips and tricks as we go.

Donna a week day would not be a good time for me to try and have lunch with all the Okie's on this board. Technically, we only have 30 min for a lunch break so getting downtown, parking, eating lunch and getting back to work in 30 minutes would mission impossible for me. Parking downtown anytime can be a real hassle, especially during the week when all the parking garages are filled with people working. I would rather shoot for a Saturday when we can all get together and take our time yakking, etc.

I think a Sat would be wonderful. I'm up for going where ever you guys want. When you live out here you are used to driving! Do we want to meet for dessert some place or for lunch? We might want to meet around 2 or so when the eateries clear out so we can be "loud", although I can't imagine that we would be LOUD.

I believe that we have some from Newcastle, Chickasha, Norman, Edmond, Midwest City (of course)...Okemah, along with some others that might find it a little hard to meet...like Idabel area...but all of ya'll are welcome to come regardless....

:bg: I introduced myself, but might have posted it some where else. My name is Fay, I moved over to Port Angeles from Seattle a few years ago. I do a lot of sewing and embroidering. I used to do a lot of quilting, but not so much any more due to lack of space and back injuries. I love to watch a design come out of the machine. I like to make small projects such as totes and note pad holders and today some time I'm going to make some cute tissue cases in the hoop. I just joined this forum last night ( I think) So far I love it, but can't figure out how to resize pictures for posting. I'm sure I'll learn it one time or another. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you. I'm enjoying every thing I'm reading. Have a great day, huggies, Fay
