I am helping a friend with some sweatshirts for his martial arts school using his logo in extreme ways. He would really like the adult sweatshirt to be from a woven fabric (we live on the gulf coast and winters are mild). He also wants the bottom hem to have a toggle drawstring to blouse up when drawn. I am unsure of how to give the current pattern style enough fabric to create the blousing effect without looking strange. Right now my pattern has slashed vents on each side with approprate ease for fit. Any ideas?

You see the blousing effect in rainwear and people don't think a thing about it. The difference is that the type of woven fabric you are using probably is a little stiff. Look for something in a woven that is soft enough to drape. That way they won't look like sacks of potatoes in their tops.

There is a fine line between getting enough fabric in the sweatshirt to make them fit for movement and making them look dumpy.

You might also consider a vent under a flap across the back for air. I've seen this done in shirts and it is a nice effect, adding air to the garment in a stylish way.

Thanks Paroper, I am using a soft poly gabradine but the pattern I used first is really a shirt pattern so I guess I could add quite a bit to the sides without making it too swampy big. We laid my Medium shirt on a XL he owns and there was 5-6 inches on each side bigger.
Thanks again.
