well, what character is it? give us a link to look at an image, and maybe we can help you find a pattern to start with, so you can tweak it and come up with something really good.

I wonder if you could start with something like this... http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4745.htm?tab=costumes&page=4 The problem is that with something drawn you are not held to the rules of physics and math (real world stuff) that limits the seamstress. pam

I just worked on a costume over the weekend for my grandson based on the character Sora from Kingdom of Hearts. Rather than making a costume from scratch, we got pants, tshirt and jacket and then altered, added ribbon & other trims, etc. It was much easier than making from scratch and came out pretty well-he was very pleased with it. I would have liked a little better job done on it but it's just for one year and he really liked it and enjoyed having input into the creating process. I told him I'd take pictures on Halloween when he was "all done up" and his dad was done making the accessories to go with the costume. Maybe a "redo" would be the way to go with your costume, Sewhappyrtr. Lyn

That one looks a lot easier than the thing I found. I think that you could start with a long sleeved black t-shirt for the top and work from there...a little belting The problem will be in the cape or whatever that is. You can probably use black jeans or sweat pants for the bottom. Jeans would probably fit better. Then add belting to the bottom with spats to take care of the boots...cuffs for the wrists...

Yes, I agree w/ the others. I think a lot of this costume can be accomplished with some basics. I'd get some balck (blue?) fleece and use it to make the vest/armor--Super simple with just side and shoulder seams and holes cut out for head and arms to go through. Wide strips of the fleece can make the belts for the waist and also for the legs. I'd buy cheap knit gloves and cut off the fingers. I'd use tube socks for the things on his ankles--cut off the toe part and heel part, and pull up over shoes. It looks like he has his arms covered but the sleeves don't attach to his vest--Again, cut off the ends of some tube socks. Now with a large piece of fleece (oh this is too warm. Maybe you'd want to use broadcloth and buy a dark set of sheets on discount to get your yardage). I'd drape it over his shoulders and start pinning to my heart's content to get the shoulder drape right. Then you can cut those cool sharp angles into it. It's a great costume. Very sharp looking. Have fun with it, and come back with pics!

Are Kratos and Michael Jackson related??? I would make that cape thingy out of black felt and just custom fit the shoulders to him and them glue blue trim around the edges. |

ya know.. I wondered the same thing. I thought it looked an awful lot like Michael Jackson too. Ok thanks for everyones help.. We will have to get working on it for sure. I wondered if fabric stiffener or cardboard would be good for the cape part of it. |
