I finally set up my sewing machine (an ancient Singer) the other day. I jumped right in and made a doggy jacket! I just used one I already had as a pattern. I figured out a lot of things from the start to the end, and you can tell which side I started on and where I finsihed just by the seams! LOL! Then I made some simple curtains. Basically hemmed the edges and made a big hem on the top to slip the curtain rod through. THEN I made a curtain for the big (51" x 60") window upstairs. It turned out way better than I expected. For one thing, my hems got a lot more even and the stitching is less wiggly. Plus it took more work. I put a long rectangular panel in the middle, and had to put pieces on both sides and the bottom to make it big enough. The curtain pocket is another piece of fabric. It's still a tad too narrow. It covers the window, but I like my curtains to be a bit wider than this one is. Easily fixable though! I also cut a tiny hole in it when I was trimming off some excess fabric from a seam. I want to put a solid colored backing on it as well, it's kinda thin, but I need to get more fabric. I made this one entriely from the fabric that was given to me with the machine! I'm pretty proud of myself, and wondering what I can make next! |

My camera is finicky about light, and it was very cloudy and overcast today, and raining. Hoping for better weather on Thursday! |

lotsapet, Sounds you have not only been busy, but having lots of fun. As you noted, your skills will improve with doing more and more. And even with that tiny hole in the curtains, you can stand back and look at what you have made and feel a sense of pride in knowing that you actually made those curtains. And, I give you a lot of credit for making that doggie jacket with no pattern but instead making one from an existing jacket. Not just anyone can do that. It's definitely not one of my choices, but for many others, it works! Have fun, SweetPea |

Good for you! You'll do terrific. Believe me, you'll probably be the only one to notice the hole. If you're smart (and not dumb like me) you'll NOT point it out to everyone who admires your work! They'll never notice. Lennie |
