When doing decorative topstitching, do you use topstitching-weight thread in the bobbin, too? Last time I had a whirl with it, I didn't do so well, and I'm wondering if I should have used all-purpose thread in the bobbin and top-stitching thread in the needle instead of the heavier weight thread in both places. I just couldn't get the bobbin tension right until I went back to regular thread. And then, with the top-stitching thread, I suppose a larger needle as well?

There actually is a top stitching needle that can be used. I like to top stitch with a twin needle. I use regular weight thread in my bobbin. Also, if you are doing one line of stitching and you have a bladed presser foot, they are wonderful for guides when doing edge or top stitching. pam

oh good. So in theory, I really shouldn't have to fiddle with the tension much, right?

It is rare that I make a great deal of adjustment in tension once I have started a garment. However, just watch as you start out. You'll know within a few stitches.

You'll know within a few stitches. Oh, isn't THAT always the case! Andrea
