Hi All! I lost my info and now have a new username - (I am) and was "Adrienne" and now am "Stitchy". Anyway...... I need sources to find 60" wide poly (good quality!) shiny satin lining for priests vestments. 45" is do-able, but, we really do not want the extra seaming it requires. I have been to Fabric.com, Joann, Hancock, Fashion Fabric Club, and was wondering if there is any wholesalers or retailers that can help me. It would be nice to get a deal, but, quality & asthetics are more important. Any suggestions - I thank you all in advance!!! God Love you! - Adrienne God Bless the U.S.A., and may God Bless the good work of our hands.

Thank you, C! I have been to those links, and have Googled my brains out (what little I had to begin with)... I cannot believe it is so difficult to find this fabric these days! Thanks for the links - I plan to revisit these, to see if they add new inventory. With all the technology and new fabrics, it is mind boggling that we cannot get certain things anymore - this lining, dotted swiss, moire - I suppose they might be out there, someplace - but, WHERE????? Thanks again and God Bless! _ Adrienne

I don't recall ever seeing 60 inch satin. 36 and 45 yes but not 60. Most of the things, including wedding dresses that are that wide and made of satin have piecing in the sides of the skirts.

Thanks, Chrys! I also have a time trying to find complimentary colors to match the vestments - right now, it a med. true blue - all I could find was periwinkle to come close so far - and it's ok - but, there are touches of aquamarine in the brocade I am re-lining now, and it would be better to go true blue - it's difficult. I guess I will have to settle for what I have. It would be nice if I only needed white! Thanks! Let me know if you hear of anything else - God Bless! - Adrienne

Dear Paroper, I have used 60" wide poly many times in the recent past - yes, 44" is availiable and most common - but, it is not used in these vestments. I did line one by putting extra seams under the arms front and back so the seam would not run center back, but, it is much easier and looks nicer without them. There is already a seam that runs smack dab across front and hangs down to the sides, as these are Eastern Vestments. Alas, I may have to do this, as I have before, but, better if I could scare up some 60"; it's somewhere out there being used by vestment makers, so, I guess I will have to keep looking. thanks!- Adrienne God Bless the U.S.A., and may God Bless the good work of our hands.

That is really good to know because I honestly had never seen it. Wow! I think that making vestments would be a great honor. I hope you find what you are looking for..sounds like Chrys has probably found a source. pam

JoAnn fabrics carries a collection of 58" wide satins. It is called the Casa collection. It comes in a wide assortment of colors. Here is the link to their online page. Not sure if this is what you are looking for http://joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID=96037&PRODID=41808

Rather than a fabric store, try tailor and seamstress supply catalogs. (Atlanta Thread, Banasch's, Sew True, Solo; I know there are more, but the catalogs are at work ). Most of these carry quality linings in a variety of colors and the ones I've listed all sell to the "public" as opposed to wholesale. Dear VenusElaine, Thank you! This is what I have been looking for - I have been through the 'usual' haunts, and googled myself into oblivian! I am going to look these up! To all who gave me links- I am grateful for these and will continue to check back in with them from time to time for updated selections. I have purchasd the Casa line, but, I need something shinier and a tad more dense for priest's vestments. Joann actually has a sale on Casa this week - 2.99 yd. It will be great for my own wardrobe! Thanks to everyone! - Adrienne God Bless the U.S.A., and may God Bless the good work of our hands.

Dear Stitchy, Glad I could help. Checked today and Banasch's has both a coat lining (very nice)and a flannelbacked coat lining that should do the job. I have used both at work for relines and the quality is good, the price well worth it. The flannelbacked is so nice, I'm thinking of making a pair of "formal" winter slacks because it is also very warm, but looks like expensive satin on the face. Carol, Thank you - this is cool - I plan to order swatch cards of the poly's, as well as the interfacings. I am grateful to you and Venus Elaine for the great links. I will let you know how my future projects come out. - Adrienne God Bless the U.S.A., and may God Bless the good work of our hands.

I'll tell you my experience W/ Baer. Some stuff had been ordered for our community theater, and I was wondering what the holdup was. (It was supposed to be shipped to my house) I called BAer, and asked about the material. The woman quickly put two and two together, (no small task when order comes from one individual, charged to a non-profit agency's charge card, and shipped to a third party.) She explained that the package was oversized according to UPS, and the shipping was going to be outrageous. She'd tried calling the non-profit, but hadn't recieved an answer. I asked her if she could roll half the foam onto another cardboard roll. She said, "UPS will be here in ten minutes. I'll try to get it out today." She did. |
