Oh, my! I just learned today that DD's preschool class needs costumes for their party, which is this Friday!!!! I had been planning to start it this Sunday..... OK, no more time to chat, obviously. Stay tuned for pics, which, if I stay up late enough, could be posted any day now.

My sister just called me and asked me to make a poodle skirt for a party tomorrow for DN. I think I am going to change my #.

Can't wait to see pictures!

I'm sooo glad that my dd wants to wear the same costume I made for her last year (Minnie Mouse) and even more glad that it still fits. I can't wait to have her wear it to her preschool party :bg:

Andrea how are you comming along on the costume? What is the baby going to be for halloween? I hope you are having an easy time with it. I usually never do when in a rush.
I finished the poodle skirt last night but I cheated big time. I had gotten some felt from my Nana layed it out and folded it in half and cut it out. I had to guess at the size. I only had one seam and add a band for the elastic.waist. I didnt have to finish the edges because felt will not ravel. It was very fast going I then embroidered a poodle on it. I think it turned out pretty good for a 20 min project. Took longer to embroider than to sew.

Thanks for asking! I DID IT!!!!! Oh, my goodness, did I push through it! I am about to go sit down and sew in the ONE button. then I'm going to go hang it in DD's room to surprise her with it when she wakes up in the morning! I love to hear the sounds when she wakes up and finds something I've put in there for her!

OK, it's a mermaid costume. I used the Disney Ariel pattern from Simplicity, and I improvised a lot--making it with long sleeves and warm instead of no sleeves and cold; all knits, instead of all wovens, and some of the funkiest fabrics for fins. It came out great, and I'd post a pic now, but....Oh I am so tired out!! Just wait another day, ok?

That sounds so cute!!!
Can't wait to see the pictures.
I know what you mean about down to the wire.
I am making 7 costumes this year; as of yesterday 3 are done. DD #2 has both of her costumes done: Pirate girl and indian maiden; DD#3 has her trick or treating costume done: 1/2 angel 1/2 devil--but her school costume: Pippi Longstockings- I have to make the denim jumper today. I think I will embroider Pippi on a pocket--so everyone knows who she is and then I can take it off and change it for later use.
I found out the school they are at this year only allows costumes on Halloween if they are book characters, thus the 2 costumes per kid. Older dd is indian from Island of the Blue Dolphins; younger Pippi from Pippi Longstockings.
Still need to make dd #1 (14 yo) her goth teen witch costume, dh his pirate costume, and my pirate wench costume.
Wish me luck- lol! :bg:

Jen, you WIN!!! That is a lot of sewing! haha!
OK, here's my link. Let me know if you have trouble opening it. Of course, it's a mermaid, but I tosses it in the "Bridezilla" folder, which explains the title on the page.

OK If that didn't work, then try this: http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slideshow.jsp?mode=fromshare&Uc=10nskech.avv4flt9&Uy=qn64st&Ux=0 You'll have to scroll past the first 3 pics to get to the costume.

That's really cute! And so fast too! (and was that a rice crispy dinosaur in the first picture? how fun!)

Thanks! (Yes, Bessie Bridezilla was made out of rice Krispies!)
My husband said he thought the costume looked just like a mermaid. Now I just took DD over to a neighbor's to a preview in her costume, and they asked her what/who she was supposed to be. She even has a long flowing wig on her head. Hmmm...

That is an impressive costume to fling together...kudos to you Andrea

they obviously never read Hans Anderson either (personally I avoid Disney like the plague - I'd rather have buboes)

Andrea, that is a great costume! I'm very impressed! Did your daughter tell you that is "just perfect"?

I'm sure that she looked--and looks--adorable in that costume! :bluesmile
