Leaving soon to spend the next two nights at the beach with one of my SIL's (I have 13, btw). She is loud, obnoxious, opinionated and brassy. Her only redeeming value IMHO is that she loves her dear little baby (55 next month) brother as much as I do. Hopefully she'll be busy with her "OH SO IMPORTANT" business and won't be around much. I make nice for the sake of family but jeez........ Then there's the family party tomorrow afternoon!!! The things we do for love!!! Lennie |

Mary, that's so funny! You may be right! One little light in my day is that there's a Quilt Show along the way and I'm hoping the timing is right to stop. Dh wouldn't mind. He knows I'll put on my happy face this weekend just out of love for him. I may yet be spending the family fortune!!! Lennie |

We'll have to compare notes some time Dorothy! You're lucky to have escaped. I won't tell her where you are, I promise. Take care and I'll see y'all sometime Sunday I hope. If I haven't fled the country to Mexico by then!! Lennie |

Oh no I bet my SIL takes the cake...I wont go into details but I am pretty sure she is undiagnosed with munchousings (sp) and it is a giant joke. But yes you cant pick your family, just your friends so you should make them ones you will keep for a while!! Stephi

I am off to spend some time with my bro and SIL as well! We all have kids off at Uni or backpacking the world so have planned some 'adult' diversions we haven't done together for a long time. Most involve eating, drinking and going to the theatre. We plan on having a good time but just remember your visit is of limited duration Lennie. You can cope.
love and kisses, Jan

I like to get sarcastic with MY sister-in-laws. (at least two of them...#3 I've never met). My husband, brother to one and brother-in-law to the other, always tells me what I good job I do making them look like idiots. It's not hard, when they are idiots who think they're better than others..besides which I haven't much in common with either of those two, besides my husband. (thank heavens we don't live near ANY of them... )

I guess we all have problems of some sort with in-laws. My SIL (who I love dearly) and I had a falling out about 2 years ago and both of us were in the wrong. There was a situation going on when she was living with us that made me mad and instead of getting it out in the open I kept it in until I exploded one night. Totally took everyone in the house by surprise and caused a major rift between my husband and me when I told my sister in law to pack her bags and leave that night (long story). Looking back, I should've handled the situation alot better but noone is perfect and hindsight is 20/20. I did apologize to her and we are actually getting along very well now and hopefully all this behind us. Once I apologized I had to let it go. I made a mistake in handling it. It would be nice to know how to handle every situation and get it right but you can't. Anyway, good luck with your family! Find that quilt shop and spend a LONG time browsing!! LOL!!

And I thought I had some STRANGE SIL's!!!! Guess we all do. My SIl on my side of the family I love dearly, as I have always known her my whole life and she is family. Now my SIl's that I inherited from y DH's side, they are a real piece of work. DH doesn't even want to be around them and they are his sisters!!!!!! |

We're back! It's 3:00 and have been back a couple hours already and I am still flabbergasted! Sorry I don't have anything to shock all of you but the the two SIL's I dreaded seeing the most were actually a lot of fun and we all had a very good time. These two have myriad mental health issues so dh and I are both assuming they've finally found meds that work! I'm not kidding. We had fun because the prevailing attitude was that we were all there to relax and do our own thing so there was minimal sticking together like glue. I visited a VERY exclusive consignment shop called Encore. A simple blouse (Armani), used mind you, went for $95.00. I guess some folks would consider that a bargain. I ended up settling for two pairs of new earrings (one for me and one for dd who pet sat) totalling $93.47. SIL and a niece each spent close to $500. You know, it just isn't my lifestyle nor does it mesh with my sensibilities to pay for those labels. This beach area is where dh grew up, lifeguarded while attending college, etc. It's his home turf so it's always fun to hear the stories and visit places that are still there from those ancient times. The quilt show was fun and there were some beautiful things there. There weren't many vendors. Would have liked to see more of those. Now watch, next time I won't dread seeing them and it'll all be back the way it was........... Now Jan, sounds like you were expecting a good time. Hope it panned out for you. Tell us about your visit with the in-laws. Lennie |
