Hello, I was at the Creative Festival in Toronto today, and saw a demo on the Lutterloh system, it was quite impressive! I didn't get it, but it was tempting. Has anyone used this system and got good fitting results? Would love to hear from users. I have a fairly averge figure, and small bust, will it work for me? The scaled up patterns defintely had a very European look and fit, which I love! I have seen the vintage pattern books of this system on Ebay. I would love a pattern book from 1935, when I believe the system was first invented. I am real 30's kind of person. In fact, I was thinking to myself at the demo, if they had a like a 1930's revival patternbook, I would have jumped and bought the system . I am not an "in fashion" kind of person,so the patterns in their current catalog didn't really interest me too much. Toronto, Canada :)

Cera, I have been in the same boat - hate today's fashions - I love the late Victoria and Early Edwardian years! Anyway; thought this site might help: http://vintagesewing.info/ Includes info from different decades, including the 30's. There is also a link to making your own dress form there - most inexpensively, and it has great ideas about vinatge sewing and drafting. There is also another link, Fashion-Era, but, I have to scare it up. Wonderful education and some pattern drafting info from old books. If I find it, I will post it here. Good luck! - Adrienne God Bless the U.S.A., and may God Bless the good work of our hands.

Hi Adrienne, I know what you mean about today's fashions, to me it all looks blah! Thanks for the links, I have been to both sites, and have downloaded some books from the vintage site, aren't they just amazing people? Love that site! Toronto, Canada :)

I was very lucky, and got the Lutterloh System for $2. at a church thrift store. If you go to their computer site, you can see the how-to video. I also am not concerned about what is currently "in fashion", and am very ecclectic. Being very curvy, and Plus, I am interested in trying the Lutterloh, and also morphing with other patterns, like Designer Vogue (for details). Lutterloh seem to be for curvier women, and have the "European draft pant", meaning room for thighs and bottoms. Also, sleeves seem well cut (ie. you can move your arms!). I have tons of ideas, the sewing room is newly vacuumed, and so now praying for more "production". Happy sewing! |

Hi Mary, The sewing show was very, very dissapointing! It's now called the Creative festival, so as to incorporate crafts, sewing and knitting all into one! The sewing portion of the show was poor, very few vendors, and hardly any interesting booths to visit. Same for knitting. The show also had a whole bunch of "non-topic" vendors, like Tide, back massage, chamois sponges etc. It was like being at the home show or something. I am not going again in the Spring and I will have to very seriously think of the Fall festival next year. Sorry, I don't have more positive feedback. The only interesting thing for me was the Lutterloh people. Toronto, Canada :)

Hello, Cera! I have been using Lutterloh for over 10 years and use it exclusively for my own garments (even the ren faire stuff I do) and my clients also love the fit Lutterloh provides. It works on many figure types including yours. I am rather curvy and with a sway back and not one time did I have to make an adjustment from any pattern I drafted from my current measurements. I will caution, however that when taking your measurements make sure you are wearing the undergarments you plan to wear with your project. I keep two sets, a casual one with regular bra and undies and a more formal or fitted one with push up and shapewear or corset with the Renaissance stuff. It really does make a difference in fit. Also, if you gain or lose 10 or more pounds or 2 or more inches, you will have to take your measurements again and draft a new pattern. Sure does save having to go out and spending money on another pattern if you have favorite garments. By the way, I don't like today's fashions, either...but they are not as bad as when I was in high school. Kate Katherine McCrea

Hi Kate, Thanks so much for your feedback on this system. I am glad to hear something positive about this system, as I have only heard so many negative things about it :(. On how it does not work etc. Any advise on how to taken that upper measurement accurately? At the demo, they gave out flyers with the main part of the ruler printed on it, with 3 patterns (vest, shorts and shirt). I have also just bought the actual ruler from somewhere in the US. I didn't bother too much with the patterns, as I mentioned I am not thrilled with them. My main goal is to get a hold of mid-1930's lutterloh patterns and use them for what I like. I am going to try the shorts pattern first, and if it works well, I'll just lengthen that pattern to a full-length pair of pants. I have knowledge of patterndrafting, which is helpful. Thanks again, Cera Toronto, Canada :)

Thanks for the feedback Bekka. I am so glad to be hearing positive things about it, as I only keeping hearing negative things. Any crucial points I should pay attention to, to make sure I am doing things right? Now if I can only find the pattern books from 1935 and 1936, I will be very, very happy! It's so difficult to find them, and when they do come up on Ebay, they cost a fortune!! Thanks again, Cera Toronto, Canada :)

Just measure carefully. If you don't have the Advanced Guide GET it!! It's great. I copy my patterns so I never cut into the original. "Encase" them in clear contact paper, they wear great when you use it over and over. Have fun! Bekka

If you go into www.designtofit.com they sell a dvd that shows you how to measure and use the Lutterloh Pattern system, DVD cost is $4.95, but it's a visual of how to measure and how the system works to make your own patterns. I have been trying to get a good price for it in EBAy but to no avail, they are very popular. Also if you go into www.dressmaking.co.nz/index.htm, which is the Lutterloh System direct site, you can get more information. Hope this help. At the moment I am trying the Click n Sew CD patterns system from Wild Ginger. |
