Where does this spring fit in this part of this machine? http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/topview/th_Oct-2.jpg (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/topview/Oct-2.jpg) http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/topview/th_Oct-1.jpg (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/topview/Oct-1.jpg) http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/topview/th_Oct.jpg (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/topview/Oct.jpg) Yesterday I came downstairs to find this spring laying next to my sewing machine and my screwdriver next to it. Jonathan (my 2 year old) says it goes there.... I don't have a manual for the machine, but I don't think it would help anyway. I think it controls the side to side motion of the machine, but Tim can't figure out how it attaches. Melanie

An engineer in the making! My 2 year old (on of my sister's twins) nephew had a tool box with screw drivers. He removed all the electical plates in the house that he could reach. He put the screws and the plates in his tool chest. pam

Well I TRIED to help...I looked at all my Janomes and I can't see where the spring goes. (it may be that my machines don't use one like that...) You may have to take it in for repair...sorry Chrys

Melanie, it looks like the needlebar return spring. Push your needlebar to one side then the other and see if it springs back into place. If not I will try to explain where it goes. I will try to get a close-up digital picture tomarrow. It could also be off your needle threader but from your picture it appears to be there.
Have fun or don't do it, Tom

After we looked at it long enough and played with it and then saw your message, Tim figured it out. What was throwing us was the smaller spring that already attached there from the back and also apparent lack of a place to hook the other end. For those interested, it goes here http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/topview/springplaces.jpg For what it is worth, I am going to hide the screwdrivers, of course if they really want to they will find a tool to use. this is not the first time that I have found pieces, and with 4 little boys....it won't be the last Melanie

Dorothy, you get to choose? How come I had a girl who hits things with swords then? Melanie, I'm glad you got it back together. We call the screw/spring/washer/odd thing that is left over after you put something back together "the exiter". You know - someone will say "What's that part?" and you reply, casually, "That? oh, it's the exiter." Then they go away awed by your vast knowledge and total suavity. love and kisses, Jan

I have a Janome QC 6260. How do I open it up to expose the thread guide as in the picture here? I can see through a slit that is linty/dusty as I have been sewing flannel. And the thread tightens up from time to time requiring rethreading. It is amazing that a 2 year old could get in there. My son was the one interested in actually sewing on a machine in my family. My daughter was/is not interested and tends to throw out any damaged in the slightest way. Fortunately they were not really interested in the sewing machine, or any other machines for that matter, when small. I like the term exiter. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

That is some fine Fine Motor Coordination for a toddler! A tinker in the making. There must be a better way to encourage him!

Oh my, that was so fun to read! I imagine you must have been horrified, but really, it was quite funny. What kids don't think of! My 14 month old granddaughter just finished redecorating their bathroom with the toilet paper. Got to love them!
