Does anyone know how to destroy CDs - as easily as possible - I seem to have aquired a great stack of them.

We have a paper/CD/Credit card shredder...Office Depot $149.00..it works real well too. You can always make ornaments out of them...sun catchers...I saw them made into 'curtains' once on HGTV. Chrys

I was afraid that was the answer! I am trying to purge my house not clutter it more. I have seen interesting ornaments, but how many do you need? Such a curtain just isn't me. I just bought a new shredder that doesn't have that feature Bring on some other answers. They sure build up after awhile. I don't think there is anything confidential or potential for id theft, but I don't know - most are unbootable on my computer after a CD crash. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

If you're worried about identity theft, how about just cracking them in pieces or smashing them with a hammer? You wouldn't have to invest in a heavy duty shredder, then, and it would be a good way to let off some steam. I doubt it's possible to really put them back together if the pieces are large, and if it is, it's probably difficult enough that no one would go through that trouble. My little brother used to melt them and stick them onto each other to make weird sculptures. It would only work with a certain style of decor though. http://www.sew-whats-up.com - the new home for Sew What's New

I was going to suggest a hammer also, or you could just leave them out in the sun(as long as you don't live in Michigan)or melt them in the oven.I'll let you know if I think of any others.

Careful with the hammer thing...plastic splinters.. put'em in an old towel or pillow case before wacking with a hammer. Chrys

Cover them with cloth and make coasters for Christmas and Thanksgiving. I saw that on Mary's SWN site one time. Mary do you still have up on your site? Another way is to break them up and throw them away a little at a time. That way they don't all wind up in the land fill together and be spliced together again. Or you could scratch them with a file and they can't be read. I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Considering how I am feeling about technology right now the hammering of them in a pillow sounds good. No sun here - and minimal snow so far, but we always have some that sticks by Halloween. I would be afraid of gasses if heating them in oven. We are heading into craft sale weekends - big ones every weekend for the next 6 weeks, two of them being juried - read expensive and wonderful stuff. Several years ago I did see someone who made some interesting bowls by melting CD's and then painting with arcrylic paint. If I see him again, I'll scratch mine and offer them to him. Thanks folks. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."
