THIS SWAP IS CLOSED.

Same rules as always here – you cannot participate if you have not participated successfully in past swaps (fq, scavenger or other swap). I will need you to email me (<email address removed for privacy>) (not private message, please, to help me keep organized!) your username, real name, mailing address, telephone number (will not be shared, only for emergencies) and if you quilt or sew or both. If you haven't participated in a past scavenger hunt, please let me know what swaps you have participated in so I may confirm with hostess.

These rules may seem strict, but based on past experiences, the board has decided to set participation rules. I know this upsets the new swappers, but I'm still waiting for my last scavenger hunt package from my partner so I'm adamant about this rule! Before committing to this swap, please carefully consider if you will be able to fulfill the swap. If you do need to drop out of the swap or will be late, please contact me immediately. If you do not fulfill your obligation to this swap after committing, you will not be permitted to join future swaps of this type.

NINE individual items, try to keep your spending at about the $15 (USD) mark (PLUS postage costs). NOTE: If you are in the US and mailing to the US, I suggest going to the USPS website here and printing a label - you will get free delivery confirmation on your package if you ship priority!

Remember, should you have any questions/concerns, please let me know at any time. Once pairings are made, please please PLEASE be in contact with your swap partner frequently (at least once a week) throughout the swap. We have found that those who have not kept in touch are the ones that end up with problems at the end of the swap.

Pairings will be made November 8, 2006- mail-by date Monday December 4, 2006. Please be sure to stay in touch with your partner during this time to help ensure a successful swap. If you will be late mailing, please contact me as well as your partner.

Remember, this is a CHRISTMAS hunt, so think Christmas/winter while hunting! Also keep in mind your swap partner's preferences. I have been pretty vague with your hunt list so that you can use your imagination.

Things to Hunt for – the package will have at least 9 items in it, one item beginning with each letter in the word CHRISTMAS. In addition, your package MUST include the following 5 items (try to work them into the CHRISTMAS items!!!): favorite cookie recipe, something homemade, something scented, something red & green, and an ornament. An example: Cinnamon scented candle for the letter C & the scented item, Snickers cookies for the letter S & the cookie recipe.

Sign up by posting in this thread and sending me an email (<email address removed for privacy>).

Couple of things -

Let me know if anyone is NOT willing to ship to Canada (we have a couple Canadian swappers) - you can send me an email.

Also, we need one more participant. If we end up with an odd-number, I'll have to do a three-way swap instead of a pair!

OK, have been shopping and have my
C, H, I, S, and M items. The "I" was a real stickler for me but finally got something. One of these is the ornament & cookie recipe...but still have my scent, homemade, and red & green items to be included in the rest...R,T, A, & S.

Oh, no...I thought I was doing better than I am. Forgot about the red & green item! Gonna work on my homemade item today.

So how is everyone else doing! Am I the only one so far behind!!!

Forgot to mention that Terry & I are keeping in touch!!!! :bg:

PS Jan if you read this...see that Advent Quilt keeps getting bumped!!! :bg:

Well I hope I am not the only one, but I am ashamed to say I have only gotten one thing bought. I am cooking for 14 on Thanksgiving and have concentrated mostly on getting the house and food bought. I DO plan on shopping on Black Friday and now that I have thought more about what I want, I should be able to get finished over that weekend..Is anyone else slow to start or is it just me?

Oh, I totally forgot that the US Thanksgiving is coming up. Up here the only thing we have to worry about is Christmas. But I know I will still be a while yet getting the rest of my things. I'm trying to get to it early since I know my packages usually take a while to arrive...seems like they get delivered by dog sled!

I think I have all my items but haven't had time to put it all together and make sure. Plus I don't have my homemade item done yet. Should have worked on it today but went car shopping instead.

I REALLY should have worked on the swap-it would have been much much cheaper! LOL Bought a new 2007 Nissan Pathfinder.first new car I've had since I was 18 and we won't discuss how old I am now :bg: But...needed a new car and I love it so.....well, I'll be using up my stash for my sewing for the next little while, that's for sure cuz there won't be a lot of extra floating around! LOL

I am almost done with Julie's. I also struggled with something that started with an I, but I finally figured out something. It's not totally Christmas related, but I think she will like it. Let's say it's indirectly related to Christmas, in some small way....... :c)

IF things go this week at work like they usually do, I will mail for sure on Saturday the 2nd. Hey Pat, how are you doing?

All I have to do is finish my handmade item and I'm done!!! I have tons of fun with this scavenger hunt! I've been a little slow as we've been packing every free second. We are buying a house and close on it tomorrow. My mom is coming up Wednesday to help me which is wonderful! I am equally excited about having a yard to piddle around in again!! I haven't had a yard since I sold my house in Alabama a couple of years before Al and I got married. This is a new house so the yard hasn't had alot done to it (established flower beds and one tree--I think a Japanese maple in the front yard.) They have some boxwoods in the beds in the front and nothing in the back..My mom is a certified master gardener so I'm excited to have her expertise this go round! Sarah, I'm going to email you my new address. Lots of hugs to you all! Julie

Hey Pat, not to worry if you don't get it mailed this weekend, be careful of the weather. Actually we are expecting a very cold spell and some snow Friday night...I am expecting a new dining room table and chairs tomorrow, solid pecan AND the garbage disposal repairman is coming too...so needless to say I can't get much done till everyone goes home tomorrow LOL. I just can't wait till DH and I are both off 10 days at Christmas so we can move the computer and desk up to my sewing room, and get things settled up there....

I agree with Shari, Lyn sends great packages, as well as Krystal, whose sugar cookie recipe has become my family's favorite, I have been partnered with Karen A, great partner and Julie S, and even Shari, our coordinator and I were partners and also sent great packages. I haven't ever been disappointed in the scavenger hunts...Pat, I am still hunting a box, I may have to just get one in the morning at the Post Office, I plan to mail priority, I will let you know when to expect delivery, hope you enjoy your package as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

HI Sarah--I just got a chance to log onto the board, email, etc. We're at the new address! We ended up having to wait until last Wed to close but we got 1/2 point lower on our interest rate so that was a GOOD thing, right? Lessened the time we thought we woud have to move but somehow we've managed to move almost everything by ourselves. We have all the blinds up with the exception of 2 of the rooms and have unpacked most of the boxes. There are a few odds and ends still at our apartment to get and getting my prints and "decorations" up but my mom is coming to help with that. Anyway, we're here! I'm exhausted but we're here! Hugs, Julie

Hey Krystal, I am heading for my Sunday nap before the football game, but I know for sure it uses powder sugar and not granulated. If that doesnt help, I will hunt it down a little later. Let me know...Come to think of it, that might be a fun swap, a favorite Christmas cookie recipe....:bolt: :bolt: Let me know ok?

Julie, glad to hear you are all moved for the most part and getting settled! Sounds like it wasn't too bad a move.

Shari, (and anyone else who wants it) here's the recipe:

Sand Tarts
1c butter
2 eggs slightly beaten
2c sugar
4 c flour (may need more or less depending on your humidity)

2 egg yolks beaten with 1 TBSP cold water
decorations or I use slivered almonds

Beat butter, sugar, eggs until smooth. Add flour one cup at a time until you have a stiff dough. Roll out on floured board 1/16-1/8 inch thick (the thinner the cookie dough the crisper the cookie will be). Cut out with cookie cutters, place on ungreased baking sheet, top with egg yolk glaze and decorate with almonds or decorations (you can use anything you like that will sprinkle on or any nut in a small size). Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes-be sure to watch the cookies, I've never had any burn but they can get brown really quickly since they are so thin. Remove from cookie sheet onto a cotton towel (I use flour sack towels so the cookies don't get linty) and let cool. Do not store with soft cookies as these will pick up the moisture.

Bet you can't eat just one-they make 3-4 dozen or more depending on what size cookie cutters you use.

Enjoy!

Lyn--the recipe sounds yummy! Thanks for posting it!!!
The move was fairly smooth considering. My mom and grandmother are coming up tomorrow to help me finish getting all of my prints hung and things like that. They are bringing my nephew with them so Sarah will have someone to play with while we are busy. I'm looking forward to them being here! I am going to make some wassail for us and I love the way it smells while it's on the stove!

Krystal....can't wait! I LOVE presents!!!

Shari, Julie and all, you are welcome for the recipe-hope it turns out well for you. We love them and you eat those cookies by the handful.

Sarah....I LOVE the nissan! I've never owned one before but that's the only brand my son will own -he has one of their cars (I never remember which one) and his wife has an older pathfinder. She was soooooo jealous! She ended up with red because they didn't have a black one on the lot when they bought and she really wanted black! LOL Plus I added a comfort pkg to it so it has dual controls for the a/c and even back seat controls for the a/c. Well worth it!! It drives like a dream too!! You can see it here:

Thank you all for your sweet words about our new home. We worked like crazy people trying to get everything moved and I centered around trying to get the living room/kitchen area done so I could put up the tree. I still have to get stockings hung but can't find any of the little thingy's you put on the fireplace to hang them on.
Mrs. O--I work on post but have quite a few friends who work at St. Francis. I wasn't really sure what to do with the bar and my mom actually had the idea of putting the Santa's out. I did use the tops of the cabinets to display my polish pottery so it wouldn't get broken. There is still alot to do but I'll get there! I feel more at home now that my fabric is all unpacked and all of my sewing gadgets out!! LOL! Julie

What a terrific box I received from Krystal (Mrs. O) yesterday!! I sent her an email thanking her and then realized I'd forgotten half the items she put in the box so....Krystal...thank you!! I know I missed items in my email but I love everything you sent!!! I even have plans for that calendar you sent me!!

I received (in no particular order) a lovely little angel, a box of chocolates, a baked potato bag, a very nice little wall hanging of the nativity that Krystal made me, some stamps and a calendar to personalize, some great Christmas fabric and an apron pattern, Vanilla and almond tea along with a cute snowman tea bag holder, Tide to go, Christmas tree earrings, recipe for Peanut Butter cups and some recipe cards, tissues and a scented candle. And a very nice picture of her and her family-they all look like they are having fun at the beach!

I think I covered it all. You did a wonderful job and I thank you very much! It made my day!

OKIEDOKIE for the requested recipies....
PEPSI SALAD
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 can cherry pie filling
6 oz box cherry jello
15 oz can crushed pineapple with juice
1 t. lemon juice
1 can cold pepsi

Boil water and sugar, add pie filling and bring to a second boil. Pour this over dry jello. Dissolve well, add pineapple and stir in lemon juice and pepsi, it will foam up. Pat suggested for the holidays to use cranberry jello and whole can cranberries, YUM

This is Mrs. O's famous SUGAR COOKIES
1 cup butter
2 cup powder sugar
2 1/2 cups flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cream of tartar
1 t. vanilla
1 egg
1/2 t. salt
Mix butter, sugar, egg and vanilla in sm. bowl. Mix other ingredients in separate bowl, then MIX together.
Chill for a while 1 HR??? or a day or more(debby's idea)

Roll out, cut and decorate, you may need to add a little flour before rolling. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 min.
My family's favorites since I got the recipe 2 years ago, thanks KRYSTAL!:bg:

Shari, thanks so much for hosting-you've always done a wonderful job...I must have missed something cuz I had no clue this would be the last one you host. I've always enjoyed these tremendously! Hopefully when it's time for the next one someone will offer to host.

Shari--thank you SO much for hosting these swaps and scavenger hunts! You have done such a wonderful job keeping it all organized! I didn't realize, either, that it would be your last one. Thank you for making them so fun. I have so enjoyed the one's I have participated in :)

Brenda-I am so happy that you received your package and that you liked everything. I had a hard time figuring out what to do for H or I until I saw the Ice cream cocoa and the hazelnut spoon! I thought they were so cute.
I started a thimble collection a while back and have enjoyed picking up a thimble while visiting different places. We took the little one to the BabyLand General Hospital back in Oct (home of the Cabbage Patch Kid hospital) and I bought 2 really adorable thimbles there.

Hope you ladies are enjoying your Christmas season so far. We're just staying busy like I am sure you all are. Sending you all warm wishes for a terrific holiday and blessed 2007!

Debby, finally remembered this...I'm gonna try it on the weekend!

Shoo-fly Pie Recipe

Crumb Part:
1/4 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar

Work the above ingredients together and set aside.

Liquid Part:
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup molasses
a little ginger, cinnamon, and cloves
3/4 cup hot water
Pastry for 1 crust pie

Mix well together and add hot water.
Into an unbaked pie shell, combine the crumbs and liquid in alternate layers with crumbs on the bottom and top.
Bake 15 minutes at 450 degrees, then 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

One thing to remember with shoo fly pie gals is that depending on the moisture in the air, the pie may turn out really moist one time and dry the next so if you get a dry one, don't give up, make it again!! The drier ones are still good-especially with coffee.
