Ok, I know this is an extremely old machine, but my youngest daughter has had one given to her with no manual and I can't find one on the internet for a model 100. Is there something similar I could get for her! She has tried to sew a few times and really wants to get into it. I think it may be a good Christmas Birthday present for her, but until then any ideas???

I've never used them, but they do have the manual.

I suspect that the reason you cannot find a manual for a model 100 Singer is that there was (AFAIK&TQAW) no model 100. Recheck the model number.

"Ok, I know this is an extremely old machine,..."

I have socks older than that, you must be under 21 if you consider that machine OLD!

Only a man would keep socks for 20 years! My dad kept and wore his WWII long handles for more than 40. When they got a hole in the seat and mother darned them and added a bell and a wad of cotton to the darned area! (He wore them and jingled everywhere he went)!

I'd love to find out if this is the right number but I'm doing this over the phone trying to get my daughter to read the number but she is not a sewer and didn't even know what the numbers on the big dial meant, so she could be way off on that. I'll see if I can get better info. Thanks.

Can she send you a picture to post? My Featherweight 221 is a small machine, but definitely not a toy. I do have a Singer "children's" machine, but it is still packed away (I've only lived here a year! ) and I don't know what number is on it. I do remember (I think) that it does a chainstitch as opposed to a lockstitch. She may want to invest in a machine from e-bay or a yard sale to get lockstitch.
I often reccommend beginners buy a working machine this way and determine if they wish to continue before investing $$$ in a machine they will seldom if ever use.

The ladies at Hancocks advised me a couple of years ago, NOT to buy their toy machine for my GD.. they said watch for an old real machine at a yard sale, because the toys will not even really make a good seam..

I also have a machine that is labelled as a Singer Featherweight, with the model listed as "100" on the plate on the back. It doesn't look really old, maybe 5 or 6 years? I found this thread, because I'm looking for a manual for it, or at least instructions for threading it. It has a front-loading vertical bobbin that has confused this new sewer. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Seems that some time ago I saw on line a replica of the Singer Feather Weight. It did state that the machine was a "replica" could this be the machine that is the model 100? I don't remember the name of the company that made the copy of the FW but I don't think it was Singer. Maybe the guys here will know.

Ruby -"It doesn't look really old, maybe 5 or 6 years?" What do you mean by this? The condition it is in or the style? A well kept Featherweight with the type of paint that was used often looks brand new.

http://www.4bandit.addr.com/featherweights.htm - has pictures of Singer Featherweights.

http://www.singer-featherweight.com/ . This site will tell you everything you want to know about a Singer Featherweight and has a manual you can download.

I do not know if there is a replica made but some sellers have painted FW in different colours. You see them for sale on ebay.
