I'm trying to reconstruct/redesign a skirt for my son's girlfriend. She wants to have straight (not angled) zippered pockets. I created a jacket once with this type of pocket but can't find the pattern now . Can anyone give a quick review on how to do it? Or direct me to a website with instructions? Thanks |

It depends on how you want your pockets to look. If they are inset pockets or patch pockets or what...Basically you put the zipper on the pocket first and then flip it up and add it to the garment. You can put a little piece of folded fabric at each end if you want a smoother look to the zippered area (instead of an irregular look. You can also put a little piece of fabric above the zipper so that the zipper is actually all on the pocket instead of half on the garment, half on the pocket...it is just really a matter of what you want it to look like. If you do it with the fabric above and the fabric at each end, then you just sew the pocket on the garment as a patch with the zipper already in place.
