Susie posted in a different post that Baby Emily has been put in the hospital.
They rushed her to the ER yesterday because of blood in her stool and some other problems she was having. They think that it might be her formula she was on. she didn't say it if was moms milk or formula from the can.
Susie just sent me a email that Emily has be admitted to the NI-CU unit at a hospital in New Orleans. She is on antibiotics and should be there for roughly 2 weeks, give or take how she does on the meds. They have done a series of tests on her also to rule out other problems.
Please keep Emily in your hearts and Susie and her family. Emily's mom and dad are so exhausted they don't know if they are coming or going. Susie is watching their older daughter and was going Trick or Treating with her tonight.

Thanks Naomi for letting everyone know about my little angel Emily. I feel so bad she's at the hospital all alone without any of us there all night but they told them to go home and get some rest so they thought it would be best. Her Mom cried most of the night tonight while we tried to take the other granddaughter her sister that is 2 out for Trick or Treating but my DIL knows the baby is in good hands it's just hard on her to leave her there. I'm hard headed and I think I would have made my husband make me a bed in the car and I would have slept in the car for two weeks. I'm glad she listened to the doctors and came home. I'll keep you all informed on her condition. This is what is being said as of now. They got to the hospital in time for her not to be as serious as it could have been. If it would have went unchecked she could have had a hole in her bowels so they caught it in time. Her stomach wasn't bloated and purple so that means she is in the early stages of the infection. There are quite a few babies that get this so it's not something unusual to the doctors but it's always bad when it's a child of yours. That's all we know for now but I'll keep you informed. My son and his wife are going to leave their house up here and go down to Chalmette and stay with some of her family that is staying in a Fema Trailer for the two weeks she'll be in the hospital. It's only a 25 min. ride to the hospital from Chalmette but it's an 1 ½ hour ride from here to the hospital so they are going on the south shore to be close to the hospital. If I'm able to I'll try to check in every day if not everyday, every other day. Hugs to all of you for your prayers.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Good luck to Emily and the whole family. It's good to know that the doctors know what they're dealing with.

All too soon this will just be a distant memory and there will be a healthy, happy baby for everyone to love and enjoy.

Emily had surgery this morning for a hole in her bowels. It was in her upper intestines and she was probably born with it there. They did the surgery and she is doing really well. They said she was really strong because it usually takes a while to get them off the ventilator but she came right off of it with no problems. She takes after her MawMaw with that strong will already. I wasn't able to go to the hospital I had her 2 yr old sister to take care of all day and I'm whipped running after her but my hubby left work as soon as he found out she had to have the surgery and was there all day with them. He called me all day with updates on what was going on. Paige the 2 yr old is really a good child but MawMaw's not use to having a little one all day ......just me and her. As it stand right now Emily will be in there a while still. Maybe 4 to 6 weeks. The doctor told my DIL and son that she will get sicker before she gets better because of all the bile dumping into her stomach cavity. I'm tired and going to bed. Hugs to all of you for your prayers and well wishes. Nite

Today's update on Emily. SHE HAS NO FEVER so far. My son went up there today because his wife, Beth is wore out, she had a C-Section and she needs rest. Of course she's torn between the 2yr old and the baby and her health. My son is staying home tomorrow with the 2yr old and I am taking her to the hospital to be with our little angel. PawPaw went today and said she is looking good. She has good color and she's pulling out the tubes in her nose so she's fighting already. My son said he stood by her side for about an hour and a half and talked to her and she just looked at him like she knew what he was saying to her. My son is very much in love with all his kids he has a tender soft heart. He almost passed out on the way to the hospital my younger son had to drive him there he couldn't drive.

I'm going to be off the computer tomorrow but will be back tomorrow night sometime and will check in again then. Thanks to all of you for you cheering words and kindness and prayers. I feel the love from all of you. Until tomorrow. Nite

Just walked in the door from the hospital all day it's now 8:21PM. I've been up since 6:00AM so I'm tired but just had to update everyone on Emily. She's doing very good. No fever still and she had a bowel movement so now we know what they fixed is working. The doctor came in and said that the tear was fixable and didn't have to be cut and put back together and that chances of this happening again are slim. She is fighsty and pulling at all the probes stuck to her and in her. The little bells for her respitory monitor kept going off which scared me at first then they told us to just rub on her little leg and it would push her respitory levels up again and it did. After about 25 times of doing this all day it was not alarming anymore. They have her on Morphine and they are going to wean her off of that starting today. Depending on how she does in the next days ahead they will start introducing her back to clear liquids and then after 14 days after the surgery they will start her formula back slowly. So that's it for today. I'm tired, hungry and cold and want to go to bed so goodnite until tomorrow.

I just want to thank all of you before I get to Emily's day. You all have been so loving and warm with all the well wishes and prayers. The prayers must be working because my little angel is getting better everyday.

Today I didn't go up there I stayed home and washed clothes and cleaned house. Then I went out to eat with my hubby for our weekly date. My son called me and told me that the doctors came in and told him that they are going to take a blood culture and if it comes back negative for infection they are taking her off the antibiotics. That is great news if it comes back good. They expected infection because of the toxins that were in her stomach cavity from the tear. Yeahhhhh they also took out the cathera (SP?) and she is able to wee wee on her own. so that is good. It just all looks good right now. Mama and Daddy are doing fine and so is Paige, her big sister (2 yrs) and her other sister Kayla that is 12 going on 40.

Again Thanks for everything, until tomorrow. Hugs Susie

Susie- What a relief it must be to hear this! I have been thinking about you and how hard it is to breathe when something like this crises is going on. When you think about it, isn't it lucky she was born in a time when things like her problem can be detected and cured.

It sounds like Emily is fighter but hopefully not going be the type of fighter that keeps you on the edge of your seat with one thing or another through her growing and developing!! :bluewink:

Nancy, my thoughts exactly. I bet she's the one that is going to give us trouble, she's a strong little one I have to give her that. I know she will be spoiled rotten when she comes home from all of this. Big Sissy's Kayla and Paige are waiting and ready for her too.

Barb and Lyn, thanks for all the prayers, I know they all helped because she is doing so well.

I got a call this evening from my son and he said Emily is doing great. The doctor came in this morning and said by Wednesday they are going to start her back on formular. Everyday it changes because at first they said 7 to 10 day before she could eat, then it was 14 days before she could eat and now it's back to 7 days. She has no fever so that mean, I guess, no infection. I'm going tomorrow to spend the day with her so I'll fill everyone in tomorrow night. We are all doing great too with all this great news, I guess Emily gets her strenght from all of us because she is a fighter for sure. Love to all of you. Until tomorrow. susie

Emily is doing great. We were able to hold her today for the first time since she was admitted in there which was last Tuesday. It's been a week already. They had to give her blood but they said she is not losing blood, her blood count was low from the surgery and all the blood they are taking out of her for test. Poor baby is hungry and wants to eat. If everything goes well tomorrow they will start introducing her to formular. Just a little at a time but it's a start. Nothing is growing in her blood cultures so that mean no infection. Other than that the day was routine. No big problems and she is gaining weight with the food she's getting in her veins. Today her Daddy and I went to the hospital and tomorrow her other grandmother and her Mom will go. They are taking turns so each can have a rest and the 2 yr old can have someone home with her each day. Wednesday Beth and Bubba will go together and Beths Grandmother will stay with Paige. I'm off that day. LOL

I'm tired so I'm writing an update on the baby to everyone and then going to bed. We hit bad weather coming home and had to come across the Lake Pontchatrain causeway all 26 miles by police convoy. The police lined everyone up in single file and we drove across this long bridge doing 30 miles an hour following the police safely across. I ache all over. The wind was horiffic and it was blowing us all over that bridge. The waves were coming up on the bridge. It was scary but me and Bubba made it safely. Me with my eyes closed and I hope Bubba had his eyes open  . LOL any way goodnite and I'll write again tomorrow. Hugs Susie

I sure as heck wouldn't want to be on the bridge!!!! So glad to see that you both made it across safely. I'm surprised that they even let cars drive on it during weather as bad as you said you are having.

Her Mama held her almost all day today she told me. I'm so thrilled. She needs to feel our love by us holding her. At first they didn't let us hold her and that upset me. I know she was sick but they respond to your touch. When we couldn't hold her I would place my arms around her sides in the bed so she would feel secure. Yesterday I asked the nurse if we could hold her she said, "Sure you haven't held her since the surgery" We said no and she said "Sure".

ROFL That was some nasty weather. Funny thing is I didn't know how bad the weather was ahead of us until we were on the bridge and my husband called and said their were tornado warning out for the area we were headed into. Nice time to tell us. I'm just glad it was yesterday and not last Friday. I came home Friday by myself after dark. At least I had my son with me that use to drive for a living so he knows how to drive in bad weather. They did close the bridge for a little while before we got on the darn thing but the waves and wind were still bad when we went across. A severe thunderstorm came across the bridge and when it passed they let the traffic start again across. It had to be with the bridge police escorting us or else they woouldn't have let us go. I was like a blindfolded cow going to slaughter. I didn't know it was that bad or I wouldn't have gone on the darn thing either. LOL

If you are on my email mailing list sorry about me cutting and pasteing tonight but I'm tired so if you got this via email I'm sorry.

Hello Everyone,

My little angel is now taking 9 cc's of formula. I didn't know how much that was until I look it up on the computer and so you can imagine how much it is.... 30 cc's is 1 ounce. Poor baby that must be teasing her. But so far she is taking it well and it looks like she is not having problems with the milk. I thought they were going to give her the synthetic milk but they didn't she's on regular formula. I will go again on Saturday to see her I will bring Donovan and Kayla to the hospital to see their newest baby sister. She doesn't have any tubes in her except one in her chest that is still feeding her with supplemental food until she can take a bottle exclusively. Well as usual I'm tired and going to bed early tonight. I have Weight Watchers in the morning so I have to get up early. Just as well, I hurt all over and am very tired. Probably all the stress lately. Until tomorrow Nite.

Hello Everyone,

They took Emily off the heater bed and now she's in a regular bassinet. She still has an IV needle in her arm but it's not doing anything it's just there so they don't have to stick her again in case she needs something. She still has the shunt in her chest because they are suppliment feeding her throught the shunt until they find out if the formula is going to be good to her. She's up to 15 cc's of formula so that's ½ ounce every 3 hours but it's only making her mad ........she wants more. They also brought in her room a swing for her to swing a little. She is going to be spoiled rotten when she comes home her Mom holds her all day when she's up there. My duty for tomorrow is to get her older brother and sister from school and keep them for the weekend. Paige is going to Grandma's house for the weekend and Mom and Dad are staying in Chalmette again for the weekend. My son and his wife are getting stressed out with all this running so I'm glad it's almost over for them. I'm thinking maybe by Wednesday they'll let her come home. I hope so.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Emily's coming home TODAY!!!!!!

Wow I'm so happy. I can't wait to get my hands on my little angel and hug and kiss her all over. LOL she's back up to 2 ounces every 3 hours and doing well so they said there is not reason to keep her at the hospital. They have to go back on Monday to take a CPR class but that's just something they make every parent who has child up at the hospital now.    :bg: :bg:   :bg: :bg: Can you tell I'm happy!!!!!! WHAAAAAHOOOOOOOOO

Premature WHAHOOOOOS!!! The surgeon's nurse came in and said she can't take out the Cath in her chest that was feeding her the surgeon has to do it and he won't be back in until tomorrow morning at 6AM. My son said the car is packed and will stay packed until the morning. He'll be back up there at 5:30 waiting. Her paper work is finished and she's ready to go all she needs is that thing out her chest. SHUCKSSS I have to wait until morning to get all my sugar off of her. I'll let you all know.

Thanks for being here for me everyone. I felt all the love you all were sending and it makes me feel so special. Hugs to all of you

Susie I am so happy for you and your family that your precious angel is well on the way to good health. Little Emily is a fighter so she's goinna do great in life. We think babies are so fragile but they are tough little critters and real fighters. She's a gift from God so spoil her all you want. That's why God made Grandmas.

That's so true Patsy. I love each one of mine in different ways............as different as each one of them are. My oldest one is here with me tonight he's 16 this month and I went in a talked to him before he went to bed and asked him if he remembered when he was little and his PawPaw and I use to take him to the French Quarters to see the horsies pulling the carriages in the quarters he use to love that and he said he did. He's was around 2 when we use to bring him up there. Every Saturday night we would go up town and take him to see the horsies. So one Saturday we parked the car and got out and paid to get a ride on the carriage around the quarters and as soon as he got in the carriage he fell asleep and slept thourgh the whole ride. There was also a train switching place not far from our house and we use to take him to see the train at a certain time every Saturday evening. He was the first and he made a monkey out of us, we would do almost anything for that child. As each one came along they stole our hearts in their own ways. My husband calls each one of them a nickname and Emily is Pigglet. Trinatte the baby of them all before Emily he calls skeeter because when she was born, there was nothing to her. He says she looked like a mosquito, hence skeeter. They are fighters all of them. I didn't ask for any of them but I wouldn't trade any of them for a for anything in this world. They are my whole life, my kids and grandkids.

I'm glad to hear Emily is on her way home... she has had alot of prayers to hold her up...thank God they caught her problem right away...she will be okay now.

Your right Bud... we love them all differently...Connor is my first... 5 years old now...and I swear he is my sole mate... I just love him to pieces... he is so old in his way's... he was born shortly after I lost my older brother to Cancer ...My heart was broke... He came along just at the right time... sure helped to mend it...and such a protector of me and the family... really looks after his little brother Evan...Evan is my second born- 3 years old...what a sweet heart ...more stubborn then you know...but melt your heart...very expressive and know's what he want's...can't bribe that kid no how...then we had twin boy's born Jan.6th of 2006 to my Bonus daughter from my second Marrige...Luke And Adam so cute...very good baby's...there just crawling now...I'm not sure if that is good or bad...LOL...I love them all...I'm very fortunate...okay!! I didn't mean to get got so long winded.[/B]

I love both my grandsons but sometimes the 5 yo just melts my heart. I think it was because he was there with a hug for me during most of my Dad's illness If dad was home & I had Gabe that Day he went to help take care of Grandpa Roe. He still talks about those days (he was only 2 at the time). I can't wait for the next one & know s/he will be as special as the first 2. I just wish I could quit my job to stay home & babysit.

Susie enjoy your time with Emily & know we are here if you need us.

I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to all of you in a while. Emily is doing fine and she is giving Mom and Dad some restless sleep but she is well on her way to being mended. I love all my grands the same but I know after this she will have a dear spot in my heart for her. She already has me wrapped around her little tiny fingers........Just imagine when she starts smiling and cooing I'll be in trouble then. LOL

Thanks again for all your prayers and well wishes. You ladies are great. Hugs to all of you. Susie

Barb, don't wish too hard. I did that. I loved my job & had no intention of quiting it. One of my dd's was expecting & she worked also. At the time there were no nurseries for babies under 2 yys old here. One of her sisters was to care for the baby when she went back to work but at the last minute she changed her mind. I quit my job & cared for him the first 2 years of his life. She picked him up promptly each day after work but I made a dream nursery room for him as I wasn't able to do that for my children. I saw & heard all his "first " things. We have 12 grands & I love them all dearly but he has a special place with me & pop pop. He feels the same & has always said he has 2 homes. He is 19 now & that super closeness is still there. His mom is # 1 but I'm a close # 2. He still bounces ideas off both of us.

I went to my brother's tonight and they just found out they have a 16month old grandbaby they didn't know was theirs. Her son was dating a girl and then broke up with her and she got married really fast and had a baby. After the baby was born she left the husband and starting coming around my nephew again and my SIL told my nephew, Are you sure that baby is not yours? He looks like a carbon copy of my nephew. Well it turns out my nephew told her he wanted a paternaity test and sure enough it was his baby. Of course there is so many mixed emotions but they are thrilled, it's their first. That first one is one that eats your heart for you.

I finally got back on the computer again and just finished reading all about Emily. I'm so glad that everything went well Susie and that she is home. And as far as the new grandbaby for your brother, I hope that they are able to spend time with this little one if that's what they want. Our daughters little boy rarely sees his grandparents on his dad's side, even though she has tried and tried to keep the relationship going. Blessings to all!

Thanks Laura and Bekka,

Yes the baby is a welcome addition to my brother and his wife's life. They will definately spoil the little guy and so will the baby's Daddy. My Brother and I are really close so as each one of my grandkids were born they were thrilled for me. I guess they must have wondered when it was going to be their turn they have two sons on is 29 and the other one that has the baby is 25. I'm really close to his sons and they are to me. My nephew was down on the floor when I was ready to leave playing with the baby and I bent down to kiss him goodbye he told me "I really wanted to tell you so bad about the baby when I found out but I had to know for sure." Made me feel really good to know he wanted to share his joy with his aunt. I always tease him that I'm his favorite aunt because we are so close. He'll make a great Daddy, you can see the love in his eyes. And as for my Brother and his wife..........well lets just say they have all the baby equipment for the little guy in their house to babysit and they already have twice this weekend. LOL
