Sew What’s Up Presents

The Sew What’s New Archive

This archived content is from Mary Wilkins’ sewing and quilting message board “Sew What’s New,” which was retired in August 2007. It is being provided by “Sew What’s Up,” which serves as the new home for many members of “Sew What’s New.”

I am posting this for Claire Shaeffer in an effort to help with her new book. She also asks that the models do not need to be professionals, but not folksy either.

I thought of Jeanette in her lovely gown.

FASHION PHOTOS

Regarded as one of the most important sewing references in the late 20th century, Claire Shaeffer’s Fabric Sewing Guide is being revised. The Revised Edition will be all color with more than 200 photographs to illustrate various fabrics. Would you like to have your designs included in this reference?

Yes, I have lots of garments, but they only reflect my style. I would like for the book to be an inspiration and resource for all homesewers. I can use photographs of all fabrics and would like to have a variety of garment designs and styles as well as body types.

There is no compensation for photos; however, you will receive a copy of Claire Shaeffer’s Fabric Sewing Guide—Revised Edition as well as an acknowledgement on the page with the photo. The acknowledgement will be in the photo caption. It can include the designer’s (your) name and/or company name, pattern number or name if you design and/or sell patterns, the photographer’s name (when needed), your school or magazine (if applicable), and the fabric type. If you have a pattern company or sell fabrics, please include the details so it can be included in the Resources.

The photos must be print quality. They can be on a live model or dress form preferably with a plain background. They can be any format: digital, slides, or photographs. If you are sending multiple digitals on a CD, an index or small reference photos will be helpful, but not essential. I am committed to using at least one photo from anyone who responds, but it will be helpful if you can provide a choice. Any information about the fiber, fabric structure, and fabric type will help me to place the photos appropriately. Photo Permission Releases will be sent to you in early 2007 so you can review the caption(s).

I look forward to receiving your photos before 10 December 2006. Please include your phone number and e-mail address. If you have any questions or cannot meet this deadline, please contact me at <email address removed for privacy> or (760) 325-7906. Please send photos to my office at the address below.
