Are there even places to buy fabric online? I spent half an hour in a fabric store yesterday and came out with nothing. I was looking for a microfleece fabric. It would be so nice if there were a site where I could just buy with "one click"!

Oh yeah, there are groups of on line shops.
Just Google what you are looking for.

Lots of places to buy fabric on line! I've bought from a few of them and have not had any problems with anything I've bought. If I could remember their names, I'd post them for you but I'm at work and they are in my favorites at home. Google the fabric you want and you'll find plenty.

I have ordered from sewbaby and wazoodle and been very happy with them. My mom has ordered from Denver and liked them. My seamstress friend calls FFC her favorite shop online.

You can join fashionfabricsclub and get swatches in the mail. It's nice to have a tangible swatch before ordering.

Good luck!

www.equilter.com I've been really happy with them, and they donate a percentage of the purchase to charity.

Also:
www.hancocks-paducah.com
www.jandofabrics.com
www.sewmamasew.com

or you can do a search on ebay, there are lots of different fabric stores there.

I love just looking!

I have never actually bought fabrics on line, but the company I order from has an on-line address: www.fashionfabricsclub.com. I love getting their little swatches so I can see the actual true colors and feel them, as well as reading about their fabric content.
They've got some really great deals, and I have found that all of the fabric I have ordered from them has been of high quality and on-grain. I've never gotten a bad fabric from them, and believe me, I've ordered a lot!

Another great shop is "Over the rainbow". It is
located in Washington state. My other 2 favorites
are equilter and Timmel Fabrics. Julie carries some
fabrics I cannot locate elsewhere. She has a great
section to see what gals have made, patterns used
and fabrics bought at Timmel Fabrics. Good sewing
section and best of all...If I have a problem or a
question, Julie goes the extra mile to help you.

In the US I've ordered from

http://www.voguefabricsstore.com/store/catalog/index.html

They have an enormous selection and are really, really helpful. My order arrived here in Greece in about 10 days!! I've also been very pleased with the quality and price of their fabrics.

I order from them often. I get both the regular swatch book and the one for $1.99, $2.99 and $3.99.
They are fantastic.

Marsha,
Wow, that web site has a huge selection. I just broused the silks and a couple other types of fabric.

Does your computer show the colors just as they are? I noticed that fabric listed as pale yellow isn't pale yellow on my comp. monitor. I guess my old monitor may need some adjusting. Oh Goody:re: , could be a new monitor is needed.

Thanks for the tip. I just ordered from Nancy's Notions and Sew Sassy. I might get the hang of online fabric ordering. It is 40 miles to the nearest Hancocks and the next nearest is 15 miles away. It has Wal-mart and a little place called designer fabrics. Neither have much selection.

Thanks for the Vogue fabric web-site. I'm going to be checking them out in a minute.

I find that if I put a lot of time and effort into a garment, I want to use good fabric; I have never found anything at Walmart to be of the good quality that fashion fabrics has, but then again, I haven't shopped their fabric in a while. But I guess if you are limited to fabric stores, what else can you do? WE NEED MORE FABRIC STORES!!!!! Is it just me, or have the younger generations quit sewing all together? I believe they no longer teach it in schools - - no more Home Ec!

As far as the color on the monitor goes, that is why I like to order the swatches. I have to feel the fabric, as a hands-on learner. Fashion Fabrics is only $4.95 for a year's membership.

I order fabric on line at times but with Vogue Fabrics I get the swatches -- which are great -- and generally order by phone. They are fantastic. I have been getting fabric from them since before there was an "on line" to order it from.
I was really disappointed the only time I was in Chicago I didn't get to one of their stores.

I have orderd from many of the sites mentioned, but my favorite did not appear above.
www.distinctivefabrics.com offers a wide variety of fabrics, some in limited supply, at absolutely fantastic prices. If you "join" (free) you receive ten swatches at no cost delivered USPS. Every time you actually order, your swatches are "recharged" to ten.

I got a cross stitch site when I checked out distinctive fabrics, Venus Elaine. This has happened with a few sites I had bookmarked. I think some sites are either stolen or sold as I find odd information on sites that look like what I am looking for. Anyone know how this works?

I used to get fabric swatches and buy from them mail order even before there was an on line. Good fabrics for good prices and the service was good too. That was years ago and they may have changed but I'd recommend giving them a try.

Momof6,
I was given an introductory special offer from them and received swatches for a long time.. I don't anymore because I only made one order from them.. The introductory one, but that is an offer you cannot refuse.. I got several pieces of 5 yds each at $ 2.00 per yd.. I got a great black textured silk piece for a jacket.. and the other 2 I got were just great.. I gave the swatches I had collected to a friend for a postage stamp quilt..

I love them and they are a great place for GARMENT fabrics. A lot of stores, even the local ones seem to be interested in stocking only quilting or craft fabrics. What fashion fabrics they do have are polyester and I cannot wear polyester. Besides, it just screams cheap! But, fashionfabricsonline.com have wonderful soft cottons and other natural fibers which actually drape. The prices are great, too!

Yes I even ordered from the Natural Fabrics on-line from their website and I loved the fabric. I prefer natural fabrics to man-made if I can get them. I'm not sure they are still with them, but I can check.
Marsha

PS Credit goes to GrandmaC for mentioning them first, but HEY EVERYONE: I was visiting a friend who sews and alters professionally and she had some beautiful raw silk fabric she ordered from www.nancysnotions.com and now I want some too!
