I am putting together the big pic on the front. The pants were a piece of cake (I can't believe I finally think something was easy!!) but I'm having a rotten time with the shirt. The body of the shirt is cut out (not the contrasting fabric) and the three pleats are pinned and stitched. It's the next step that has me confused. The pattern has solid lines on it that say "fold line" which I've never seen before (not the kind where the pattern needs to be pinned on a fold). The directions say, "Turn back edge to INSIDE along outer fold line, forming interfacing; press. Baste close to inner edge. Remove basting when garment is finished. Turn back edge to INSIDE again along remaining fold line, forming facing; press. Baste 1/4" from upper edge." Huh??!?!?!?!???!?!!! Does this mean I fold it over twice and press after each fold? And if I fold it over twice how can I remove the basting from the first fold? It may seem like a very basic question but I'm finally past the shock of moving to FL (and a new job) and I want to start sewing again. I wish I had the camera software on my dh's laptop or I'd take pictures. I really like the pattern and would love to make her a couple more outfits like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated! - Maureen.

I am not good at following directions. I will look at them to get a basic idea of what to do. I have found that there is a lot of unneeded steps in some of the instructions. I am not sure if were allowed to post other links but i did a searh for that pattern and i found this on just about that pattern... http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/readreview.pl?reviewnum=15301 Its a review of it. I am not sure if it will help you. I am more than willing to help of you need it. Feel free to im me or email me. I am about to start on a corset top and skirt for my girls for christmas...oh yeah and the pettie? coat for the skirts...LOL... Good luck April |

Maureen, I think you have a pattern that has the body piece and the facing cut all in one.. You turn the facing under on the fold line instead of having to stitch a facing on.. (like down the center front or center back) That is what the fold lines are for.. You should also have a line marking center front or back along there close somewhere..

The shirt is 90% finished. The pleats are all done and the contrasting fabric/rick rack is on. Silly me keeps forgetting to get buttons so I can finish it! My dd has already worn the pants to school with a matching shirt and it held up (she's not the "dainty" type) so I'm hoping the shirt will hold up too. One of the women at JoAnn's near me said to bring in the shirt and she'll take a look at where I'm getting stuck - she had a hard time figuring out the directions too and she's been sewing for 40 years! I felt a little better when she said they could have been written a little easier to understand (or maybe she was just trying to make me feel better) but I went home and took my time - everything was going along nicely until I got to the part about the buttons and realized I didn't have any! You know what they say about the best laid plans..... - Maureen.
