and am now trying to replace it. Its a brothers maching, and I have a package of Singer needles. That may be my problem right there.

So I have tried the 3 different sized needles, but my tension is all messed up. I'm assuming its the needle.

In my packet I have 80/11, 90/14 and 100/16. I followed the recommendations on the back on what needle to use for which fabric, it just doesn't work.

So can anyone tell me which one is right, if any? I was sewing single layer flannel and use cotton/flannel to make baby bibs. The first needle did fine on all those.

Or is it that I have Singer needles and a Brothers machine?

Thanks for any help, I really need it.

I would think the 80/11 would be fine for the fabric you're sewing, however, do you have the needle in the right way? Also, other than for my Singer machines, I much prefer the Schmetz needles for my Pfaff.

I had a problem with my machine not sounding right and the thread was not taking up through the tension like it should and I found out it was the bobbin. I know this might not be your problem but sometimes if one little thing is not what it's suppose to be it will throw everything out of wack. I used my Janome to wind my bobbin for my Singer with a Singer bobbin and for some reason it didn't work right. I threw that bobbin away and did one on my Singer and it was fine. The singer and Janome bobbins look close to the same but they are not. The Singer bobbin makes my Janome make noise when sewing. My Janome dealer sold me the class 15 bobbins for my Janome and they won't work on my 9000.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Singer needles are longer than other needles. Although on of the guys (Tom or Bill) says that the eye is in the same place, my Bernina sounded TERRIBLE when I tried on in my old machine...and it did not sew but made nests. I suspect this is your problem.

Hey! Oh beleive me, I've been thru the wrong bobbin issue, it only took me a week to finally figure out what was wrong.

I took out the needle, put it back in, rethreaded everything and it seems to be ok now. DH was at the store last night and got me some universal needles. If this singer causes problems on other things I'll try the new needles.

Thanks everyone, who knew how picky sewing machines were?

How's your finger doing?

I did that once too, and it hurt like the dickens and took forever to heal.

 Ticia,

That was so sweet of you to ask : ). Its actually ok, just a little sore, much better than I expected. I still find it fasinating that it went all the way thru, I look at the other side and see the little 'red dot' and I'm still thinking 'wow...'

Thank you so much for asking about it. Having your needle go thru your finger is not as bad as it sounds, at least in my case. I am just glad it didn't go thru the nail.

I am also alittle freaked today!! My mother-in-law is visiting for a weeks and I thought she was coming in tomorrow and I found out earlier from DH its TODAY!! I've been running around cleaning like crazy. I am the worst about waiting until the last minute on things, but I sure have gotten alot cleaned up in record time, lol!

Good luck with the visit Samantha. My MIL lives in town, so she stops by occasionally, at least she goes home each night!! Really, she's not bad in little bits like that. We went fabric shopping yesterday so she's not that bad. I was thinking about your needle problem and I had a needle problem a long time ago and finally realized I had the needle in backwards with the flat side to the front. That makes a difference.
