Usually the shoulder seams are one of the first things you sew -- but usually isn't good enough. Can you copy the pattern instructions for applying the facing? What kind of facing is it? What is the pattern company and number? Dorothy |

On most patterns the lining is applied after the basic assembly of the jacket... You pretty much assemble the jacket, then most or all of the lining and then put them together. There are exceptions to all rules so, as Dorothy pointed out, read the instuctions. If you haven't done this, stop and read them all the way to the end, then start where you are in the instructions and follow them as you go along.

In most cases the back facing is attached first but once again, I defer to the guide sheet.

plumcrazy if you haven't already gone past the neck facing step in your pattern, I interpret you first post as you are making an unlined jacket. If that is the case, you would sew the should seams and then add the facings but probably not until the facings (front and back) have been assembled and become one piece. If you are making a lined jacket then that is a completely different process and as the other ladies posted, I would also defer to the instruction guide and ask that you go step by step and not jump ahead to other processes before you complete the one you're on. That only confuses the process, especially if you are rather new to assembling jackets. Patsy Patsy

I decided to do it just like you ladies explained and did not even bother with the lining...way to complicated..so i sew the front and back together and then added the facings...will tackle lining another time...thanks for replying so fast....plumcrazy |

There is an excellent explanation of how to do this in the Threads newsletter. Did anyone else receive this?

I just finished reading the article this morning. I wish I would have had this before doing my last jacket. It really made it much clearer than the pattern directions.
