My youngest DD just received an invitation to the governor's inaugural ball. She is supposed to wear something along the lines of a cocktail/evening gown. But it is not supposed to look like a prom dress. Here is the problem. She wears a girls 12/14 on the bottom, but is a 30C cup size. I do not want her to wear an "adult" looking dress, and definately not anything revealing. Oh and by the way - it is in a couple of weeks!! YIKES!! Any suggestions? Has anyone bought a rtw adult dress and tried to modify it to a child. I am at a loss!! Suggestions - PLEASE!! Susan |

Oh man poor thing I was built the same way. My mom tells me that she surprised I dont fall on my face when I walk. How good are you at modifying a pattern. I think thats your best bet. I have a 6 year old and I have a problem finding RTW stuff that doesnt look like street walker clothes. I havent gone formal dress shopping in years so Im not sure whats out there but I will go looking.....Oh hey I some in vogue that were very pretty. May do something with a skirt and jacket.....let me go look I'll be back to post pics of what I find. How old is your daughter? |

I just love web shopping!.....Ok if you order from vogue directly there is no shipping charges. If your lucky and live where they sell vogue they go on sell all the time. here are my picks! http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/voguepatterns/shop.cgi?s.item.V8314=x&TI=20009&page=1 http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/voguepatterns/shop.cgi?s.item.V8283=x&TI=20009&page=1 http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/voguepatterns/shop.cgi?s.item.V8286=x&TI=20002&page=1 Ok that was harder then I thought. Go simple black dress and dress up with pearls. Wear hair up with nice hair pins. She will look great. I would keep it simple and she can wear it again. That would be great also for holiday pics.

Thanks!! I had thought of trying to find a basic black velvet dress and "jazz it up" with some beading, etc. There are some beautiful beaded appliques out there. I love the voque patterns, but have never altered a pattern. I was actually looking in the kids to alter "up" to an adult top. Makes MUCH more sense to alter an adult one down to a child. Our Hancock's has them 75% off today, so I will go look. Kids - gotta love em. Susan |
