Hi everyone. I just found this site early this morning while looking for sites for sewing business information. I have just closed a successful home daycare business after 11 years and got a job with the public school system for insurance purposes (getting a divorce and will be dropped from husband's policy); but it's a 6 hr per day job. The brain storm hit me early this morning that I could suppliment my income with a sewing/alteration business. I had a successful home based home sewing business when my children were young. (before going into child care) I have always loved all areas of fiber art, especially sewing and quilting. I am just learning to do bobbin lace and hope to incorporate that into my sewing and quilting. I enjoyed reading all the posts before signing up here and look forward to getting to know everyone. Welcome. This is a really great group of people. Everyone is very friendly and always willing to help. Another Shelia in North Carolina. Hi: I see you are living in Tar Hole (excuse me 'Hill") country. I live farther west now, but I grew up in Wolf Pack country; just south of Raleigh. And....I always cheer for Duke....go figure..... Libby, yes they are physically close but the rivalry is huge. Shelia And when you get to be my age, the rivalry is just silly fun. I'm thrilled to see that there are several of us from NC here. Hi there Libby, we're neighbors. I live just north of Charlotte. Ms Sheila |

We have a great Duke/NC rivalry alive and well in southern Jersey, too! Of course it helps that I have NC roots. My dad's family is from there. |

My dad's family is from Waynesville, way up in the hills, if I remember correctly. It's been a long time since I've been there. I do remember going to the Cherokee village they have there and going over the border into Gatlinberg. I have offered to drive my parents down but will have to wait for summer vacation to do that I guess. |

Hi Ms Sheila, I have had a go a bobbin lace myself - trouble is everytime I put it away it is as though I have to start again from the beginning...I love the bobbins and spangling - it the toys that make it fun! Have you tried coloured gimp? What type of lace to you make, Buckinghamshire?Torchon? love and kisses, Jan

Hi Magot: I'm just now learning how to do bobbin lace. The girls are teaching me to do torchon right now. When I have done it long enough to feel more comfortable with it, I'd like to branch out and do different styles. Yes, I have tried colored gimp on my practice pieces. I've done color in most of my pieces since I'm learning. For me, using different colors when practiciing helps me to see exactly what the thread is doing and where each bobbin has been and where it is going. Sheila |
