Hi everyone...hope I'm in the right section to post this...I'm looking for fabric similar to the fabric used in the skirt in the attached link.

http://www1.talbots.com/talbotsonline/product/itempage.aspx?item=J253689&PFID=1426&BID=S200631706464637BF75A921A549FD927F47&h=M

You can click on the enlarged view to get a better view of the fabric.

It's a silk fabric and if you know of a storefront or online retailer that has fabric similar to this, if you don't mind, please pass along any info. I don't necessarily have to have silk, just something that is similar in texture and body. I am making a tea-length skirt for Christmas and would like to have something like this. I am also interested in something like this for a tree skirt.

I have Googled, Yahooed, Asked and done everything short of standing on my head to find something similar online. I have searched for cutout embroidered fabrics, laser-cut embroidered fabrics, embroidered silks and fabrics. I can't think of any other way to search!

Thanks in advance for any info you can offer.

I had some beautiful cotton that was similar and had rhinestones scattered around on it. I had to find something to line it with though -- it was just the top cut out layer. I made a skirt for my daughter.
It was expensive. I got a piece that had been cut and was laying around. They gave me a special price "Just for you and your beautiful daughter." I got it in one of those little hole in the wall places in the New York City garment district.

I think it's very pretty. Now this is going to sound off the wall but have you tried looking at tablecloths to use as fabric with a liner? I have a huge tablecloth that's very, very similar.

Just an idea since you seem so desperate.

No, I had not!!! Would you mind sharing any info about the tablecloth? Where did you purchase it and possibly any info on the manufacturer? Sometimes I suffer from tunnel vision and fail to look outside the bubble! Thanks for your input.

I'm really sorry, Debbie, but that's all I can tell you. My Mom gave it to me when she was downsizing. I'm sure she bought it in the '60's, in Oregon. There are no tags.

I'd normally be happy to send it to you if it was just an old tablecloth but there is a bit of sentimentality attached to it and also, I'm sure, too many spots to make it viable as fabric for sewing.

Still, this might open up some more webites to you - linens and all that........ You can even check out Ebay for heirloom fabrics/tablecloths.

Good luck, , Lennie

I know what you mean. I have inherited quite a bit recently due to my mom's downsizing. You are sweet to even think of offering if there wasn't any sentimental attachment. I do appreciate the thought, though. This gives me a whole new avenue to explore!!
