I've done them using crochet around the edge with the furry yarn. IF that is what you mean I think I have a link to some directions or I could talk you through it.

I found some links that aren't exactly what I did, but you could work with it. this one you sew to the sock http://margarethubertoriginals.com/sock.htm this is more what I do, crochet right onto the sock.
