So what kind of Sewing Related Christmas Present would you like? This will be neat- Maybe you'll want something other sewers aren't familiar with or give others ideas.

I myself am eyeballing the EQ6.

WHo's next?

I'd quite like some fancy rulers - ones where I can cut angles. Hard to find here though and even though I specify 'THIS website THIS product' on the old list nobody in the family seems to take me seriously.

I want a longarm quilting machine! But I don't think that's going to happen. So I'll settle for someone helping me clean up my sewing room. I don't think that's going to happen either.

Well, Since I am just starting out, any kind of containers to sort my fabrics in and a nice ironing contraption to put next to me so I don't have to go in the other room to do all my ironing. OH and let's not forget about the endless giftcards to my fave fabric stores!!!!! I am with GDL too! I would love someone to clean out my "craft room" so that I could actually SEW in there and maybe some new lighting for in there since it only has an overhead bulb.

I want someone to help me clean out and organize my sewing room-not likely to happen. No one listens to me either when I say I want this from this site-give the web site, the cost and the item #. Know exactly how you feel Jan!

I will settle for more fabric, gift cards to the fabric store, etc.

I'd love an emboridery machine but I haven't had the time to shop for one and no one who buys me gifts can afford one anyway. LOL

Like Dorothy, I want for nothing and have way more than I need. I don't shop the 50% off notions or blowout thread sales anymore. I have just aobut every serger thread color they make, incluidng the wooly nylon and I have more notions than I'll ever use. The only thing I might consider having my dh order me for Christmas is a set of embroidery threads for my embroidery machine. The main reason I don't want or need more sewing stuff is that I don't have room for anything else in my sewing room. I'm trying to leave room in there so I have room to move around, use my cutting table, etc. comfortably without stumbling or stepping over stuff all the time.

I just love the way my Mama gives me Christmas gifts. She is retired and doesnt' have much money to spend on fancy gifts. But, instead of paper, she wraps my gifts in a yard or so of cotton fabric that I can add to my quilt stash. she ties the package with a yard or two of either ribbon or pretty lace that I can also add to my sewing stash.

Mama sews and quilts too, so she knows and understands.

I would like the gift of time.....so that I could use some of my stash up; play with some of the gadgets I already own, so that I can become better at using them.

My DH has promised me that since hunting season (for him) is now over, he'll be able to give me more time on the weekends to work on stuff. Unfortunately, it's now the holiday season, and I'm working more weekends!

Maybe in January..............

I don't really need anything or want anything sewing related. My husband wants to get me the Janome Coverpro with the 4 threads. I've been trying to talk him out of it. Perhaps it is because I've done very little sewing this year and I don't feel like I deserve it :bluesad: .

Last year I got the big present (embroidery machine). So this year I want something small. All I want is a FlipFold (http://www.flipfold.com/). It would be so nice to have all my fabrics folded to the exact same size so they would look pretty in their stacks.

A serger is one of those things where you don't know what you're missing until you get one...then you don't know how you did without it.

Ditto to what Pam said. People who don't have sergers get along just fine without them, but once you have one and know how to use it you'll never go back.

I can now whip out a pair of pajama pants in 30 minutes or less (that includes cutting time) thanks to my lovely serger.

I agree with Gina & Pam. I make a lot of T shirts & flannel pant & shorts. I use my serger on every project. I also like it for making curtains. I do a rolled hem on all sides with the serger before I hem & do the rod pocket.
I don't know what I would do without mine now that I have it.

I agree with the "serger girls". I sewed for years without one and thought no big deal. Then I got one and used it, was surprised at how much faster I could do things. But...didn't realize how much I relied on it until I took a sewing machine on vacation with me to make some maternity tops for my daughter and didn't have that serger! Boy! Took me twice as long to make each top!!

All I want is a FlipFold (http://www.flipfold.com/). It would be so nice to have all my fabrics folded to the exact same size so they would look pretty in their stacks.
Gina, you don't need a FlipFold. All you need is one of the new 8.5"x24" rulers. I read an article in the Quilters Newletter Mag. where they explained how to fold your fabric.

With the fabric folded in half lengthwise (same as it you get it from the store), you use the ruler and roll (flip the ruler) over and over until the fabric is all rolled up on the ruler. Then remove the ruler. Fold the fabric in half and put it on the shelf. You can use this for anything that is approx. 1/2 yd. in length.

This past weekend I did this to almost all my fabrics. They look so nice on the shelves!

For all those wishing they had a serger...I had one and GAVE it away. I wasn't using it and my aunt was going to buy one so I gave her mine. Did the same with my previous sewing machine. My niece didn't have one so I have "loaned" it to her....but really don't expect it back. Guess you could call me Ms. Claus. :bg:

Okay ladies, since you expanded on the subject ~~

I know nothing about sergers. :nc: The only thing I know you can do with them is finish seams. They will finish a seam and cut the excess fabric at the same time. That's it! That's all I know. My sewing machine does the finishing and I do the cutting.

So, what is it about a serger that I would find so wonderful?? Is it just faster? :nc: :nc: Please tell me.

Thanks, Lennie

Lennie --
I'm not one of the big serger fans. But I like mine. It is handy, not necessary. I know very well how I would get along without it -- but I would just as soon not have too.
The serger will give your finished seams a ready-to-wear look. What you are doing now probably looks just as good if not better than ready-to-wear.
But the serged edge is faster than most other finishes and reduces bulk.

Right now I am making a coat out of a wool fabric with a loose weave that would fray badly, even lined. I serged around all the pieces before putting them together and that helps while I work with it.

I have also used the cover stitch for hems -- but I have some problems with always catching the edge of some fabrics in the coverstitch and usually just use the regular sewing machine over the serged edge (here I could just turn it under and get an even neater finish with a bit more bulk if I didn't have a serger. But I'm not in a hurry and often just sew around things twice rather than bother using a twin needle, so....

The chain stitch on my machine is great for decorative effects. I am looking forward to using a flatlock stitch sometime for decorative effects but I haven't gotten around to it.

I made a reversible jacket out of a reversible fabric and rather than using facing I just serged around the edges with woolly nylon. It turned out great and would have been even better if I'd had more experience with the serger at the time.

But sergers are complicated and some are a real pain to thread and operate -- mine is easy but was in the $1,000 range which, with my budget is high -- so if you decide to get one look for a dealer that will teach you how to use it and give you emotional support when you take it home and realize you have no idea what you are doing.

Lennie.......I have one of the first sergers Bernina made (and the first one my dealer ever sold) :nervous: it is a pain in the patooty to thread, HOWEVER................... it just doesn't finish off your seam, it finishes off your seam really fast and almost effortless.

Dorothy is right, it is not that you couldn't finish your seams on your regular machine, I would just rather finish it off with my serger.

I made my daughter a Boucle jacket also serged around all the edges of the cut pieces before assembling - otherwise, the fabric would have raveled to pieces before a seam was stitched.

I have some attachments but never really use them. I also serge around the outside edges of my quilt top when done to keep it nice and neat if I'm quilting by hand and dragging it around (okay, I don't really drag it around, I just move it around).

I am not sure what the prices of sergers run anymore, but my investment is over 20 years old and has never needed a repair (knock on a wooden thread spool).

Thank you so much ladies! Based on what you two took the time to write it sounds like I'm fine for now without a serger.

I'm lucky to have a husband that if I mentioned once that having one would be nice he'd run out and buy me the biggest and best one on the market. I have to be careful that way. (He really is a sweetheart but I think he figures he spends substantial money on his love of deep sea fishing and this might even things out a bit! :whacky: )

So unless my sewing habits change I guess I'm fine without one.

Appreciate your input. Any other comments still welcome.

And lessons for Embird, or the book on how to use it, though I learn better by hands on. And the time to sew.

She is going to let me "borrow" it for good now! So, It is MINE now!!! WOOHOO!!! (Never thought that I would actually own an embroidery machine until I was my mom's age!!!)

Beefcakes huh? I think I have too much beefcake at home to take care of already! And how can we make that Sewing related??? LMAO

Lennie??? I have a hubby like yours and would be the same way when mentioning things like that too. He saves them for the Holiday/Birthday thing and surprises me with them. He keeps those things in the back of his mind and brings them up at the EXACT right time! Oh and he makes up "holidays" too! :) I gotta good one-and he is a beefcake so I have no need for another one! LOL You girls go tho! What the heck do we need furniture for???

About sergers.. Mine is 16 years old. Cost new on it was $ 279.00 and I have never had to spend another dime on it except for thread.. I bought a Janome coverpro to get the coverstitch because I do so many knits ... Tees, pj's, etc and I needed it for hems.. I came out better doing that because my serger still sews like it was brand new..:bg: :bg:

I have been getting for the last three years a new machine. Last year it was my Singer Serger, the year before my Singer XL6000 and the year before that my Janome 9000. I was hoping for the Janome 6600 quilting machine this year but I got my present early this year so the machine is out. I'm totally happy with my present I have to say even if it wasn't a new machine. Hubby surprised me Tuesday with a 2007 Ford Mustang. Red and it's pretty!!! I can skip the machine for now.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

YOU ARE SOOOO LUCKY!!!!

Mustangs are as my teenaged nephew says "Tight"!!

My dream car and I will probably never realize that one!

Congrats! I think I could put a new machine on the back burner for a Sweet Red Ride like that! Enjoy Sweets!

  I'd call that sewing related - surely you have to make seat covers to match hubbies Ford!

Wow...a red mustang! um...don't you need to make red quilted seat covers to match! (LOL) If you join the Red, White & U swap, think of all those blocks you would have to use for the seat covers! (hee hee).

Wow Judee I never thought about that one. Great Idea. I've never washed something so much in all my life. I got up early this morning and washed it before taking my son's soon to be wife to the doctors to find out she's expecting their second, his third child. This will make 9 Grandkids for me:shock:   when will it end. It was a surprise. I suspected something when she asked me to take her to the obgyn but I still didn't know for sure until she strolled out the office with a bag of Pre-natal vitamins in tow and a huge grin on her face. Then I knew!!! Here we go again.

I'm going to move my pic to another post. This post is suppose to be for Sewing related Christmas presents. I really wanted that new Janome 6600. I used it at the Embroidery conference and loved it. I also would love to get a quilting frame, but as Bren said I'm spoiled and want everything. I got the new mustang because the little boy in Raymond came out and although he wouldn't admit it he wanted it as much as I did.

Chrys. I'm not into it for being fast, I just think they are cool looking cars. I like the way a car looks I'm scared of speed. I don't have any speeding tickets or any tickets for that matter but hubby is my insurance hiker, he's had 3 in the last year and my insurance went up again. I could have never had a V8 with him on my insurance.

Now Suzie,
Did you ask Santa for a new grandchild and not tell anyone???? Is LA THAT fertile???? Maybe we need to be looking there to adopt! :)

You must have been a REAL good girl this year! :)
I looked at your pic on your other posting. NICE RIDE!

Good for you with the tickets. I have only one on my list and it was when I was 19 and thought I was cool and talked back to the officer. NOT a good idea! He gave me a ticket for a petty little passing on the right. None since (crossing my fingers here!!) Don't let hubby behind the wheel of your fast car and he won't have a ticket problem!! :) Gives you an excuse to have it all to yourself!

You Go Mustang Sally. I used to have a little green one with a spoiler in the back. HOT!!! and yes we stayed in the slow lane, I think I got wild and opened it up to 70 mph once.

You drive on slowly, so everyone can get a GOOD LOOK at how HOT you are going to pick up your notions.

I would like a notions transportation unit for Christmas as well.

toooo funny, however I'm still going to be stuck with my van sigh... (too many kids!!)
I'm not sure what I would like for christmas sewing gear, but I did see this very nice wooden tool chest at Costco, one of the stand up models 5 feet high, the drawers were all flocked/lined etc. Much too nice for tools, Sewing stuff would be a better use for it I think.:bg:

I'm so spoiled not only would i like a new machine again this time Janome 6600 but I'd also like a new sewing room so everything will fit. my little room is getting smaller and smaller. Now I really feel selfish because I know there are a lot of you out there that don't even have a room to sew in. It use to be that way when the kids were little I'd have to sew on the table and put it all away when I was finished but now all I do is lock the door so Trinatte (grandbaby #7) doesn't get into my room and play with all the no no's.

I must have been a good girl this year or someone is feeling sorry for me with all my new grandbabies. I thought I was finished with all the grandbabies a few years ago I had 5 but this will make 9. I never thought I'd say this butttttttt I hope it's a boy!!! I need a boy to get things back even. We have 6 girls and 2 boys.
