I just haven't heard anyone say lately how they are doing with their diet programs. I'm still sticking to my WW program and as of Thursday I've taken off 19.6 of the pounds I've put back on during Katrina. I have only 7 pounds to go to be what I was pre-Katrina. I've been back on WW since April and it's been slow coming off but considering the stress in my life, I'm pleased with my results.

Now that the holidays are here I'm going to have to work even harder to stay on track. Any good suggestions for the holidays or tricks you might use to keep those girlie (womanly) figures? Or Manly physics? My idea will be to eat what I want on Thursday and freeze left overs or give the kids take home bags so it's out the house. That way my jeans will still fit for Christmas. :nah:
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Improper language? What did you say?

I unfortunately am not on a diet. I really should be though. I get just sick thinking about the fact that I've gained 50 pounds since high school! Yikes!

Congratulations on your weight loss. That's a real accomplishment. Slower weight loss is better anyway. It's more healthy and you tend to keep it off better. Keep up the great work!

Way to go Susie!

I had lost 25 pounds but I gained back 5 of it after I had surgery. I finally got back on track last month and have lost 3 of that. I talked some ladies at work into weighing in with me again after we watched Dr. Oz on Oprah about how important your waist measurement is to heart health. Soooooo ..... now I need to lose at least 2 inches from my waist. Don't know how many pounds that will be but I'm thinking maybe 10 more.

It gets dark too early now for me to walk on weekdays so I'm really really planning to get back to doing Tae Bo.

I'm going to eat what I want on Thanksgiving. When I lost weight a few months ago I allowed myself to have whatever I wanted on Friday nights. (Including Chocolate!) It helped me stick with it knowing I could have something yummy at least one night a week.

Susie, you can always eat the left over turkey. It's good for you. (Maybe not the fried kind tho)

Congrats to you Bama. That's a lot of weight and also good for you to go back to it before you gained it all back.

I do that too Bama I go out with my husband on Saturday night and eat things that aren't low in calories or fat but it's one day and i'm back on the program.

GreenDragonLady, The improper language I corrected. I used too many prepositions in my sentences. I fixed it before everyone thought I was going crazy. LOL Which I am.

Catherine.....WOW! I'm glad to hear you are doing well. Diabetes is challenging to say the least.

To the rest of you holiday beauties...........and what I keep saying..............move the ironing board AWAY from the sewing machine. Crank up the tunes and dance away while pressing those seams.

Two yrs ago before I went back to work all of my size 24 pants were getting tight. Now after working for 2 yrs. I sold all the 24s in a garage sale last summer because they were too big. I don't own a scale but All of my clothes are looser on me & last week I bought size 22jeans & they are a little loose.
I haven't really followed a diet except I am not very hungry after feeding 200 elementary students & my office is at the oppisite end of the building from the main office so I am walking a lot. I also don't have much time for baking.

Wow, you gals are doing fantastic. I took off 25 lbs, gained back 10 and have now lost that again. It'll be a year pretty soon and I am very pleased. I feel great. My incentive was my daughters wedding!! I still fight with that 'fat' feeling that I'm sure you know what I mean. And I'm the correct weight for my height now. I wonder if that 'fat' feeling ever goes away - when your brain keeps telling you that you are fat even though you aren't. Anyone else have that struggle?

Happens to me too Laura, I am right in there on the height for weight and the BMI is good, and I still have days when I feel fat and days when I feel thin. They are largely related to whatever time of the month it is:wink: I know that I can go up or down by a kilo easily without changing my eating habits at all- it is so frustrating!

Congratulations to all of you losers! :bg:

I have steadily put on weight since I got married over 10years ago when I was just right apparently. It really creeps up. Turning 50 must have done it! I'd love to lose about 15 lbs. but I'm so undisciplined! I love, love, love carbs........:bluesad:

As for the feeling of being fat. I was chunky as an adolescent and that's such a vulnerable time. No matter what anyone says, I have always felt fat no matter what the scale said.

Ugh - I was always so skinny, very underweight. Five foot eight and 110 lbs. When I turned 40, and started pre-menopause, I gained 50lbs overnight it seemed. Now, I'm down to about 125, and I STILL feel so heavy.....I look in the mirror and all I see is fat. Most of my weight gain was in my belly area, and that is the last to come off, it seems. But I'm working on it! Heart disease and diabetes runs in our family, and I don't want either one of them. Keep on losing, everyone, you can do it!

BTW, I can't walk [bad feet] so I have a recumbent exercise bike that I ride faithfully, every day. I usually read a book while I ride, and 45 minutes goes by in no time at all!

I've just been diagnosed with diabetes in the last couple of weeks.. Talk about shock! ! ! I went to the class that my Dr recommended and got a lot of information, but it is involving a major habits change for me.. I have not eaten breakfast in 30 years til now.. Thank The Lord that I love oatmeal.. LOL.. I don't have to take meds or check my glucose every day.. We are trying for control with diet and exercise.. Wish me luck, girlfriends.. It has been a major shock to me.. I haven't been on the boards in over a week.. See what I mean.. That is a new time for me ... I'm trying to figure what I can eat for Thanksgiving ... My 2 sons are doing the cooking this year.. The one that lives with me does 95 % of my cooking anyway.. I'm retired, you know... LOL.:bg: :bg:

Oh Libby I'm so sorry to hear your bad news. I guess you can eat meat so turkey is okay, are sweet potatos on the list of no no's? I know on sugar busters you can have them fried. If so a little butter on a baked sweet potato. Just keep away from the stuffings and breads. Veggies are okay too at least some of them are. I'll keep a look out for some ideas for you and you will definately be in my thoughts. Happy turkey day even though. Hugs Susie

I'm from Australia and we don't do Thanksgiving but the idea behind any of these celebrations should be the same whether its Thanksgiving, Christmas or any other social gathering. Its great to get together and enjoy a sumptuous feast but what we eat doesn't need to be laden with fat or sugar to be enjoyable and more doesn't always mean better.

Most important of all is that the focus of these events should not be on the table - it should be on our loved ones and the time we are spending together. Which do you think your family would choose if they had to make a choice - you or the feast? Don't get me wrong - I love good food as much as next person but I sometimes feel our priorities are a bit skewed.

Just the same I'm sure there are tons of people out there that have some healthier slants on traditional recipes and also that your son will happily make them for you. If this doesn't provoke a rush of responses with thanksgiving recipes for you, jump on the US Weight Watchers website and for sure they'll have some traditional but diet friendly things to make. If not, let me know and I'll see what I can come up with here (doubtful I'll have anything for Thanksgiving as such but I do have tons of WW Christmas recipes). I should confess at this point that I lost 70+ pounds with Weight Watchers and have now worked for them for some years.

Best of luck with your journey - the thing to remember is to just keep going - we all have times when it seems difficult or we trip up - thats okay as long as we get back on the wagon asap.

Cheers, Pauline

Laura I wish I could say I was where I was suppose to be unfortunately I've not been there since I was 21. Oh I got down to 140 when I was in my late 20's but always swelled back up to the 165 range give or take a few. I'd be happy at 140 again but if the charts are correct I'll have to weigh 105 - 115 to be average. NOT It will never happen not in my lifetime.

Vickki, You lost 35 pounds since June WOW that is fabulous. The typical weight loss on WW is usually around 1 to 2 pounds a week. Some weeks less than that. That should be an average and not be a given. www.weightwatchers.com has a recipe builder if you join you can put a recipe in and it will tell you how many points that recipe is per serving. It's wonderful. That way you don't have to guess how many points your recipes are you'll know. You can also change the ingredient and tweak you recipe to lower your points.

A good guide to go by is the first bite of food is going to taste better than the second third and forth so in reality all you need is a bite or two to enjoy something. You don't have to eat the whole pie just a small taste will satisfy you. If I do that I don't feel deprived of anything but don't gain from them either.

The nutrition class I attended has us counting carbs and fats mainly.. The vegs and fruits I have got down pat, but I'm still having to read the labels for the carbs til I get used to them.. The liquids are a hassle.. I have something in my mouth that makes saccarin (sp) taste like dirty metal in my mouth, so no Diet Coke or Diet Sprite for me.. I have to find the nutrasweet (aspartame) ones .. Sundrop is my favorite soda anyway and the diet one uses the right thing.. I don't drink many sodas anyway.. Maybe one a week.. I'm just using unsweet tea and putting more lemon than usual in it..:bg: :bg:
