Do these quilts have names?
These are doll quilts my Grandma made when my sisters & I were younger. They are probably 40-45 yrs. old. I am just curious as to whether she invented them or were they actual patterns.

Grandma was a "maverick" meaning she did what she wanted and didn't have the need to follow convention....

so I am guess the first one is a pinwheel strippy quilt with prairie point border...... (notice not all the pinwheels follow the right light/dark configuration)....

and the second one..........I went through Brackman under circles and then flowers.......nothing............and then I started looking at the block as a four patch. In the center, do you see the number of seams grandma was going to have to piece? Do you think maybe she didn't like how it was going together and she decided to applique a circle to eliminate the bulky intersection?

Has anybody else come up with a pattern name? I will keep looking though...........as I love a mystery!

i think she sewed a bunch of triangles and then turned to form the pattern. the other i would say she made up doing with what she has, i see a block with britches in it or pants. i haven't seen that one anywhere. treasure what you have. my ex mother in law quilted blankets for a doll house bed for my daughter who is now 31 and has 2 boys. my ex glued the quilts on so she wouldn't lose them. she said never again as she cut tiny squares and sewed them . size maybe 3" x 3".

I don't know if you can tell by the picture but these are all hand sewn. I think most of them are leftover peices from the big quilts she made.
I have a couple of those too but they have been used a lot & we used to have the beds with open springs so the have been repaired many times. She did like her prairie points most of her quilts had them.
Thanks for checking for me, I had no idea where to start.

In the first picture, she took the very center 4 triangles are from what is called " CORN AND BEANS " but she turned the outer triangles backwards from the normal way. Those triangles are put on each corner of the center block with the long sides facing the corner point. Then you put more smaller trianles adding to the block. Hard for me to explain writing it. I think too that she used extra triangles she had left over for the doll quilt. A good way to not waste anything & done with lots of love. they are keepers for sure. The other quilt is also from a quilt block. Something about pants or britches. I have a zillion quilt books that were my moms plus ones I've bought through the years. I love quilts.

OH no...I was reading an article in Fons & Porter Nov\Dec mag. where they say that dolls quilts are often more valuable than old full size quilts. Just thought I would point this out...so take good care of those quilts too.

I don't know for certain but the second one reminds me of "turkey tracks" and I know there is a quilt pattern called that.... maybe a quick search would find out for you.
