http://pelkovitch.photosite.com/Album1/quiltingparty.html I originally started this quilt on August 30, 1988. I had collected signatures from "quilting personalitites" popular at the time and set their signatures into chimney sweep blocks. In October of this year I saw the blocks when going through a storage bins of scraps and took them apart and set them in new and old fabrics. Here is the result. I am going to machine quilt it, embellish it with buttons and put some trim on before I bind it. 18 years...............where did the years go? Patty

What a lovely quilt. It looks old timey and warm. Wonderful signatures too. Some real "quilt" personalities.

That's sooooo pretty! I love your signature quilts. I want to start a project like that. When you wrote to people asking for signatures, did you send a fabric pen with the fabric square? My son loves this idea too, so it would be a good project to start with him. Maybe get some signatures from famous karate people to make a quilt for him. |

Hello there Quilting Daughter! Still busy sewing for the little bumpkin? Glad to see you around.....and glad you like the quilt. Bama.........it is more successful in getting back signatures if...........the fabric is ironed onto freezer paper for stability and you enclose a SASE. It is a fun project for kids to write letters and then when they get a response in the mailbox it can be quite exciting. I know this information from watching my husband when he wrote the authors/illustrators and negro league players. Patty

I have been sewing for the coworkers (Christmas) first and foremost then for the quilt block swap, THEN since I have already sewed SOOOOO much for the little babycakes, then I can sneak in a few things! Love the idea of signature quilts. Thought of maybe doing one for my mom with all her cousins she was close with when she was young. They don't see each other as much now so that would be a neat idea to give to her for her 60th??? (I think I have a year to work with here!) Hope everyone reading has a Happy Turkey Day! Going to be a boring quiet one for us! (I might even get to sew!!!!) 99 Cent Snuggle flannel at Joann's starting at 6 AM on Black Friday!!!! "A trip to the fabric store is my therapy"
