We put our 2nd youngest onto the plane for England last night. He is meeting his girlfriend who is already there in Italy but not for 3 weeks. He is just going and will attempt to find the hostel and purchase a cell phone and backpack for the three weeks until they hook up. Then they are going to backpack Europe for a year on working holiday visas. He is 26 and a grown man, but am I ever having lost little boy mommy thoughts! They hope to settle in Birminham England in January and use it as their home base. The furthest he's ever travelled is 1700 km from Saskatchewan to BC. Oh my! Now he is somewhere in London wandering around and he doesn't know a soul. ( Breathe deeply, stretch, relax) The saving grace is at least he knows the language (or most of it!! haha) I keep checking my email to see if he's sent a phone number yet. This is a great thing for him, but being a mom, I still worry.

Breath in and out slowly Laura, he'll be fine - we have hotels here and cell phone shops - I'm sure he will be in touch soon.

How wonderful for him!

I treasure the traveling I did when I was younger! If you don't do it then it gets harder and harder as time goes on and responsibilities mount.

He's at a great age to do this. He'll be fine and so will you.

Laura.... You're only allowed to worry for one day and then you pass it on to a higher authority.

Thanks everyone. I'm 1/2 way through the first day, only 8 more hours of worrying! Enough whining, I need to go sew.

He'll be fine - we're quite friendly these days :bg:

Unsure about him understanding the language though; if he and his girlfriend intend to settle in Birmingham they may find the accent there "interesting".

We also have internet cafes so keeping in touch shouldn't be a problem with hotmail accounts and so on.
