I have been doing some holiday sewing with my Omega machine. It is less than a year old and after about an hour of use, the needle won't pick up the bottom, bobbin thread. I tried to change the needle, the bobbin and cleaned it all out but the darn thing still won't pick up the thread. Any ideas why this is happening???:Canada:

Hi and welcome to Sew Whats New. I think you will have to rethread your machine. Sounds like something has come out of position. Check your bobbin too.

Is your bobbin in and the thread properly pulled thru the slot?

Yes everything is in place but it seems as if my needle is not going down far enough to pick up the thread. I called a technician in this area and he said that it had to be the timing. Would he be correct in saying this??

Check your manual. The needle may be in backwards or not in all the way. Either one would cause it to miss the hook and cause a timing problem. Also, make sure that your bobbin thread is still positioned correctly in the bobbin case. The thread should slide under the little flat metal portion of the case. This may well be something that you have done and know but once in a while I'll break the thread in the bobbin and it won't pick up. Sometimes it pops out of the tension spring in the case so it doesn't hurt to check it. Make sure your bobbin is facing the right direction. Some machines don't care, others will give you FITS.

Thanks for the information. I tried it all and still no go. It seems as though the needle is not going down far enough to pick up the thread. I even tried some different types of needles and new bobbins and new thread because someone told me that their machine won't sew with the cheaper thread. I don't know where to go from here other than bringing it into a technician which will cost a good dollar! This time of year we don't have that much money to throw around!! Is it possible for the timing to go on the machine so quickly. I was sewing perfect one minute and then nothing.

If your machine is less than a year old it should still be on warrenty and shouldn't cost you anything (hopefully). Maybe thay could give you a loner if they have to keep it for any length of time.

Sometimes when I have been doing quite a bit of sewing the lint builds up and gives me grief. Take your bobbin mechanism apart and check for pieces of thread and lint that maybe stuck somewhere that it shouldn't be, also check for burrs, that also maybe a problem. Don't know what else to tell you. Hopefully by now you are up and sewing again.

I am up and sewing again, but not with my machine. I got a lend of my mother in law's machine. That will get me through for now. My machine is just over a year old and can't be covered under warranty but thanks for the insight. Also...I got my husband to look for the bill for it last night and lo and behold, he lost the bill. He bought me the machine for my birthday so I didn't have the bill in my possession!!!
