Where do you go to buy neoprene? I've never seen it at the fabric shops near me. I found it online, but it was in sheets several feet long and wide for a _lot_ of money! I need about ...12 inches worth :/

Is there a sporting goods store near you for divers? They may just have something you could use.

What color do you need? I will check and see if I have any or if my girlfriend has any left. We used to work in sewing shop and used it everyday. |

What is neoprene used for in sewing? I do have a squeegee with a neoprene strip in it which I use for screen printing but I cannot figure out how it can be used in sewing. |

The company I used to work for used it to make orthopedic supports for arms, wrists and knees. Plus neoprene is used to make diving suits for skin divers. |

Ah, I have been away a few days and I see I have missed a beat or two! I was looking for plain old black neoprene. My husband got a new cell phone and it doesn't fit into his old "holster." the phone is a new model and they're not making holsters for it yet. It's kind of like a Blackberry, but not quite the same dimensions. (I've been seeing neoprene in lots of products these days--Wine bottle totes come to mind first for some reason)

My husband got a new phone last year and he a ballistic nylon case and thought he might like one out of neoprene. I searched high and low to find one to fit his phone and I couldn't find anything...nothing that I could even use for dimensions. I ended up purchasing a couple of the neoprene wine totes and some black grosgrain ribbon, a small caribeener and a few of the spring toggles. I took an old thick elastic cord out of an old jacket and sat down and fiddled for a few hours. I finished the project...he was thrilled! I ended up making a few for his fellow co-workers who had the same phone. Debbie |

I found that it worked out well. I was left to wander about too many things regarding making a purchase of a cut piece of it. I didn't know where I would find any, or if my machine would sew through it easily and what I would do with any left overs. I guess I ponder things too much! Now I am in need of a piece, maybe a half yard or so to make a sleeve for a new laptop that we purchased. DH wants one, but he wants to add a zippered pocket to the outside. Can't talk him in to buying one of the ready made ones and letting me add a pocket out of nylon, oh well. Good luck with the project! Debbie |

Try your local thrift shopI see wet suits all the time in ours. You could cut several out of one of those. It would make a great presentsfor the upcomming holidays.

What about inner soles or things that are used to line shoes that rub? Some of it has sticky side for application but you could put any type of fabric on the sticky side. (identifications?) For some reason I recall having some but don't recall how I got it and I did throw it out after awhile - see - one should never throw things out!! Think also of items that may be shipped with neoprene for protection. I think the thrift store sounds best and cheapest. Of course it would depend on whether you live any where near where wet suits may be worn. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

I checked my stash last night and I have none. DF also checked her stuff and nothing there either. I do have a fabric store here in town I will try and check this week. It is where my old Boss sold any fabrics he wanted to get rid of from the company. |

This message may be a little late or off but... in the hardware section with the contact paper, there was a new product, like a thick shelf linear. I am positive it is the same material used to make can cozies/coolies. when I was it the thought of the original poster of this tread. |
