For those who may be interested, 'Today'(NBC) is doing a story about an autistic boy who is making a film about his life. I just caught the tail end of the preview, but am pretty sure it is this morning(Friday, Nov. 24).
Take care,
Donna

I think it is called "Inside the Boy" or something like that. My daughter and I watched a movie something like that. His name was Adam and he was 14. It was very revealing, I could relate with just about everything that boy did, his parents reactions, the ensuing problems with school, etc.

After the movie, we had the chance to meet both Adam and his mother, who made the film. It was such an interesting evening and Adam had a sense of humor that had us all cracking up.

There is another film called Autism is a World. It is about a girl who was thought to be retarded. At the age of 13, they diagnosed her with autism. She went to college with the help of full time aids. One for home, one for school.

Hi Dorothy,
I've been trying to cut back on computer time...it was starting to take over.

Mary, this one, Autism and Me, is made by a British boy...see the Today story here:

I just heard that my nephew (also Aspergers/autistic spectrum) has been awarded an National vocational Qualification in electronics. Normal for his age to take such things (he is nearly 16) but he is 6 months early I think - he was always interested in electronics as a 2 year old and it looks like his obsession has stuck!

I hope to get to see him this Christmas-his big brother (my ex-foster son) wants to bring him over to meet the family. I haven't seen him since he was 10 since social services (he is in care) decided that the family were a bad influence. They wouldn't even let him come to my daughters wedding-we are such NASTY people.

The sad thing is that he went into care originally as his Mum had mental health problems and accused Dad of all sorts of things - all off which have been proved untrue- and the system here is such that social workers are so overworked that they burn out in a few years and so therefore no consistancy of care. They don't check the notes to see what the relatives are like - just cut him off and denied any of us access. I am such a bad influence. Stupid thing is whenever I talk to the social workers on the phone (and this happens to Tony's Mum as well) after a while they go,
"oh, You are quite normal aren't you"

DUH! So, for my nephew to get a qualification while he is in care is really something as many kids in his situation get nowhere academically. His older brother hasn't managed it - but at least he has a job!

Can you tell I am proud of these kids?:bg:

Thanks-my sister in law usually keeps me up to date on things like this as all 3 of her triplets are autistic (they are 3 years old.) I am gonna go to the link. She must not have known about it b/c like I said, she's usually great at letting us know about things coming up!
