What do you think is the item you've made that has given you the best result (i.e. most admired, looked most like RTW, proudest of) that was still relatively easy (time for all newbies to prick up their ears). I've made a lot of knitwear that I'm very happy with - I haven't yet mastered buttonholes or even tried zippers and am often happiest with items I've traced a pattern off existing clothing for. This is probably because I'm not yet brave or skilled enough to do significant pattern alterations. Am interested to hear. Pauline

I think the best thing I have made in quite a while was a pair of pants. It was a Vogue pattern and I will be making more of them. They look good in denim and I am going to make another pair in crepe. I have worn them over and over, they are very comfy. It's so satisfying when you can make something that fits well, looks good and is comfortable.

Jackets and handbags seem to work well for me because they lend themselves to new and interesting techniques. Pants, tops, shirts, that stuff I have basic patterns I use over and over again and they come out pretty good every time. Dorothy |

My daughters wedding dress and bolero (http://homepage.mac.com/tony.p.hodge/PhotoAlbum24.html) while not the most complicated or best wedding dress I have made gave me much pleasure. It was a fairly easy butterick pattern and Katie a perfect size 12 - but the fitting and discussions gave me precious time with her before she was married. Consequently the dress (which suited her character perfectly) gave me great pleasure more for it's emotional connections than it's complexity in construction.

One of the cutest things I ever made ......out of everything......was my youngest daughter's first communion dress. (Mind you I am not Catholic, so this was taking a leap for me.) I used the American Girl pattern (this was around 14 years ago and I don't think they make them anymore). I took Samantha's tea dress and made it in a white linen. Then I put a big bow in her hair popular at the turn of the twentieth century with white stockings and then she had black old fashioned button up shoes (they were from Kirsten's). She looked like she had just gotten off the boat (okay, that is slang that my family has for relatives that landed at Ellis Island....so not trying to be derrogative, just talking about our own family tree and history). She was the shortest kid in the group so she had to be the first one out and I will say that a few eye balls popped. If my scanner gets fixed, I will have to scan an old picture and post it as I LOVED this outfit. Patty
