I am trying to whip up this jacket McCalls 4229 (http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4229.htm). I have to work tonight and it is supposed to drop below freezing. BRRRR! So I need a jacket to wear while working.
So anyway my problem is I don't know what size to make. All I can find on the pattern envelope is finished sizes. How much bigger than my actual measurements do I want the jacket?

OK. I found McCalls size charts on their site. Now I am running into a problem with the petite folding line. I am gonna go see if they explain it on their site, but if anyone knows what I am supposed to do pleassse post.

Cute jacket Pudge! It looks fairly straight forward, but which fold line on the garment are you talking about? Center front? Hem? Maybe you could post that part of the instructions so that we can help.

Do you mean you are trying to shorten it a bit?

Yep. I was wanting to shorten it. I called Mcalls. Turns out I had to fold the solid (shorten) line to the dotted line. I have it all cut out and mostly sewn together just got to do the side seams, neckline and hem. We'll see if it fits. I have a horrible time making stuff for myself. I didn't get it done in time for work but I cooked french fries most of the night so I was nice and toasty.

Oh and there were no instructions only a "fold here for petite" line. I think if a pattern is advertised as petite it should explain what you need to do to make it petite.

The pattern companies take care of the ease. If you buy the jacket according to the measurments you should be fine for fit.

It is so cuddly warm. I have been wearing it since I finished it. I am almost afraid to wear it to work cause it will get dirty.
I think it is a bit big, so if I make it again I'll go a size smaller. Gotta check out my stash and see if I have anymore fleece.:bolt:
BTW, for anyone who is interested, once I got past the petite issues it went together like a dream.

Looks good Gina! Good enough to eat (grin). Better a bit big than too small. So if you get up the gumption you can always take it in a bit.

Thanks. I love it too.
I won't try to take it in. Anytime I have ever tried that I have messed up the item.
It went over with mixed reactions at work. Some people had the look like "I would never be caught dead in that".
I got a few requests to make one until I told them that the fabric alone was $20 and I wouldn't take less than $15 an hour and it would take at least 3 hours, probably more. I really didn't want to make them for everybody anyway.
It is funny how people just don't have a clue as to what is involved in sewing.
Another thing I learned by wearing it to work is, that at least in the girls who work at McDonald's, sewing is alive and strong. Several of them started talking to me about what the are making at school and the machines they have now, sergers, embroidery machines. Of course it is no longer Home Ec. Now they call it Fashion Design but hey it doesn't matter what they call it as long as it is still being taught in school. They also have Interior design, they learn pillows, curtains and such.
YIPEE for NISD (our school district)!
