hiya -i'm sewing in Britains fourth largest city, it rains alot here so what better than cosying up to my machines. I'm in my forties and have a 14yo boy, and a yummy fiance. We're getting married in 2008 and I am still deciding whether to make my own dress! I found lots of superstitions not to make it myself and none to support making it myself. so let me know what you think...
i love visiting sew whats new and feel at home here with everyone and i am looking forward to making new friends...I have been lurking here for two years so I know you all will be kind yet honest.
my biggest fault is disorganisation, my weakness is fabric. my strength is perserverance. i have finally come out to the forums because i want to get on top of my stash.
here are photos of the problem!

Welcome to the gang we like lurkers to come out of the closet only in your case you'd be lucky to get in! - I see the extent of your stash problem - good job we are not prone to earthquakes - you might disappear under an avalanch. Enjoy the stash challenge - it is a real motivator.

I made my own wedding dress being blissfuly unaware of any traditions for or against...been married 27 tears now so somethings working well. Looking at your pictures of Gemmas dress I would say you certainly have the skills so why not? You will probably need a friend to help withthe fittings though.

My brother went to Uni in Sheffield (is that where you are?)

Hi and welcome!

Certainly happy to see you here. What a challenge you have just dealing with your stash! The dress in the pictures is gorgeous.

Can't say I've ever heard of superstitions associated with making your own wedding dress. I think it would mean all the more if you did.

My mother made my first wedding's dress and that marriage was a looooooooong awful joke but hey! I don't think it had anything to do with the dress! It was beautiful and the bride's maids dresses were also made by mom and beautiful.

(Jan, was that a Freudian slip? Married for 27 Tears???? Just kidding! I know you are a happily married lady.)

Take care and hope to see you around often.

Lennie
