I have read that cutting through folded tin foil is a good and easy way to sharpen scissors although I have never tried it - will it work for pinking shears?

Also - I'm having trouble with a couple of costume issues - will fabric stiffening spray work on heavier fabrics than tulle? For various reasons I can't use interfacing for this job. Making spikes for echidna (OZ equivalent of hedgehog) which are attached to tunic.

Thanks.

I don't know about the tuille stiffening but I can tell you that net is soooo much stiffer than tuille and is a whole lot cheaper too. I use tuille for wedding veils and top layers on evening gowns and the like but I use net to hold up the garment from underneath, tuille just "lays there".

I've never sharpened my pinking shears, sorry. I don't use them that much primarily because most of my pinking shears are so "Bleep" hard to open. I only recently found a pair that I could comfortably use.

Haven't started on the spikes for the echidna but did take your advice and got some nylon net which I used for making crests (head plumage) for cockatoos (type of bird).

You're right it is much stiffer and cheaper than tulle. It only cost about 3 dollars and I got lucky and found a couple of nice remnants for stuff for my daughter while I was in the shop.

Thanks.

I had to do a panda bear for my daughter....and an elephant for a customer. I think I'd rather do those than a 'too. We cut and covered part of a Clorox bottle for the panda bear...it was easy. I used a cup for to help with the shape and added a slinky so the elephant could swing his trunk.
