If we have been through this topic before, someone please let me know ASAP. Thanks.

My DH asked me what I want for Christmas and I told him I want an entire set of polyester thread for my embroidery machine. However, now I'm in a quandry as to which brand is best and who has the best prices. Soooo, gals and guys let me have your thoughts on the embroidery thread that you prefer for your embroidery machines.

Madeira Polyneon 40 is what I love. It's strong, colors are beautiful and I got a great deal at Sewphisticated Stitcher. Free shipping. Box of 48, 1100 yd spools. I've been so happy with it.

Patsy, I carry a number of different brands. My observation is that most of my customers prefer Maderia on the poly lines. I don't really know why it is their choice as I am basing this on the number of purchases. I really like this thread but price may be a deciding factor as much or more than which is really best. Unlike Rayons, since most poly embroidery thread is very smooth, stong and colorfast I would find it very hard to say I think one is better than another.

Patsy,

As long as you stay with Sulky or Madeira he cant go wrong. I prefer Sulky for the fact that JoAnns has a sale 1/2 off on all threads a lot, I stock up with more then. Medeira has more on a spool and in the long run is a better bargin, but I have found I don't use thread afully fast in one perticular color except for green and red during the holidays.

A couple of years ago, I got a poly ThreaDelight set from ABC Embroidery. It was that set (http://www.abc-embroidery-designs.com/Embroidery_Threads/AET0003_100poly1100.html).They had a very interesting offer at the time (I got it for $100, shipping to France included). Anyway, the colours are beautiful and the thread never breaks.

Ladies thanks for your suggestions. Last night I told dh that I wanted to order one of the Thread Delight kits on ABC Embroidery and he had to tell me that last week he ordered me two sets (102 mini cones) of Isacord thread. He had wanted to suprise me but decided he had better tell me before I purchased on my own. Now, I'm sure he'll go ahead and buy me something else to surprise me with, he usually does.

You'll love Isacord and probably never switch. For one thing anytime you run out of a color during a project you'll need to get the same brand to get a perfect match. A common embroiderers mistake is to use several brands. What happens is they end up with a lot of half used spools that never get used because they don't match each other and don't have enough thread on them to do the entire project.

I've used Isacord from the beginning. It is absolutely WONDERFUL thread and the Bernina shop at 240 and Penn (not to far from Helen Enox) has it in stock. Also, the Yenment thread is WONDERFUL metalic thread. I have all the Isacord colors and they are easy to replace once you have them. About once or twice a year OESD (embroideryonline.com) has a major sale on their thread. Usually you can either buy it through them or you can get the same deal from the dealer. I would suggest that if you want to go the Isacord route, you sign up for the OESD mailing list so you'll know when the sales are going on. Unfortunately, we can't just drive over there and buy from the shop so we have to pay shipping. The dealer is usually cheaper because of shipping.

The other thread that I rather like though, for mixed colors and specialty thread is Maderia. The prices at this site really beat have many of the other beat. Anyone considering Maderia might want to check the prices here... The price of the full assortment, poly or rayon is really quite good if you consider the cost of filling them out a spool at a time.

I agree with Tom's feelings about mixing thread. The other is that if you are doing thread conversions it is harder if you have several brands of thread, and very confusing. It is easy to duplicate colors and near colors. When I was filling out my thread colors, I kept a color chart in my purse and marked each color as I purchased to know how to fill out the color line. When I forgot the chart, I often found out that I duplicated colors.

I love the Isacord too, having a hard time finding a canadian dealer for it:nervous: but have tonnes from when I still lived in OH (5+ years ago) I don't embroider all that often but the isacord never breaks. I find sulky breaks in my machine a lot:mad:
Annthegran.com has a conversion chart for isacord you can print.

I would not recommend THREAD ART thread of any kind.
I have lots of different threads from them, spent lots of money and a lot of it is rotten.
If you stick with madera you will be OK.
