I finally finished my coat for this winter -- good thing it has been mild, huh?
It took forever -- for no good reason -- I just kept sewing a couple seams and quitting for the day. Then the next day something would come up. So, since before Thanksgiving I worked on it at a snails pace. But it is finished and I'm happy.

I also like the coat. I love a herringbone for anything. Like the style as well. Walk out warm and proud, lady!

Dorothy, I love your coat and the collar is very nice - feminine, yet not cutsie. As usual, you always use a stunning lining.

You're going to have to stop by for :coffee2: when you're in the neighborhood.

I like the style too, and the lining sets it off nicely. Did you use interlining at all?

No, Mary, I didn't and on some very cold day I shall probably regret it. The wool is really light weight.
But I have a huge wool cape that I can wear over it and it has a lining with gin and hellfire to keep me warm.:bluewink:

Love the coat Dorothy - gin and hell fire sounds like a mega-cocktail, or is this some hitherto unknown sewing term?

Gin and hellfire will do the trick, the cape will help too.

You can't see it in the picture, but there is red in the wool too.
And the lining is a jacquard with daisies on it.

You should be proud indeed Dorothy, the coat is stunning, and I especially love the red lining to offset the black and white. I don't know if I would EVER attempt a coat, maybe when I grow up...LOL

I find I enjoy making coats. Around here you wear them so much that it is nice to have something you've made yourself to show off.
They really aren't hard -- unless you go out of the way to get a more complicated pattern.
They shouldn't take as long as this one though. Work is seriously getting in the way of sewing.

There is a lady on Julie Culshaw's site that makes herself a few different coats and makes her dog one to match.

Yeah, my daughter has suggested that.
No, I don't think Lucy and I will have matching coats.
I won't make or wear matching shirts with my husband either.
