A good starting point would be to look at Kwik sew patterns. They have good instructions. If you find a pattern that appeals then perhaps you could look on patternreview.com to see what other sewists think. Now I have tried my hand at bra making this year and it is surprisingly easy here is a link to my first attempt out of a scrap of fabric that I had used to line a jacket http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sewingskye/detail?.dir=8960&.dnm=edc1scd.jpg&.src=ph [my second attempt with a few tweaks ie using the top piece of KS 2101 to give the girls a bit more coverage http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sewingskye/detail?.dir=8960&.dnm=7b8fscd.jpg&.src=ph inside viewhttp://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sewingskye/detail?.dir=8960&.dnm=a336scd.jpg&.src=ph FYI I am a 12C in RTW bras Now there are some sites which are useful too so here you gohttp://bra-makers.blogspot.com/ http://shop.beautifulbras.com.au/store/products/category106.inetstore ope you have some fun http://home.iprimus.com.au/mnd/underwire%20shelf%20bra%20instructions.htm |

Good leads. Another is Jan Bones. I think she's in Canada. She does mini-courses at all the sewing expos to drum up interest in her "wares", pardon the pun. http://www.sewinglingerie.com/

I know http://www.sewsassy.com/ has what seems to be all the materials you'd need to make undergarments. I haven't bought anything from there, but they seem to have the necessities. |

I ordered through this website once: http://www.bramakers.com/bms_sindex.html They have a wide range of patterns and supplies. Their pattern brand is Elan. The explanations that go with the pattern are very detailed and helpful. Isabelle

Sorry it took me a few days to post this but I wanted to clear it with Mary first. I run a sewing lingerie group on Yahoo. Because of the nature of this type of sewing and the crazy people loose in this world we keep it members only. Not only the home sewists take part in this but we have several professionals that help. We're definately open to all sewists of any level but please let us know that you're here also. addy for the group is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Sewing_Lingerie/ Weezie weezie

It looks like everyone has it covered. I made my first ones from kwik sew and it was so easy. I made the most comfy bra I had wore in years. The underpants were supper easy the ones I made only has three seams to sew and if you use stretch lace there is no edging to add. Way to easy for a first timer! Good Luck |

Hi Miss Spring, I love the way you put that! Yes the Kwik Sew basis bra and panty patterns are quite easy to sew. They have a minimum of seams and few pattern pieces. There are also other companies who sell beautiful lingerie patterns. When one wears a more common straight forth size it's a wonderful answer to high prices, limits in colors, and poor RTW sewing we've all come across. Most of what we deal with in our group are fitting issues or nonstandard style problems. Ready to wear bras come in several more standard sizes. Ok for an example there is a young woman who wears a 28F. Unless she could afford to buy all custom made bras, she can't get fitted and braless isn't a good answer. Another issue we come across is women who have had a mastectomy. Again if you locate them ready made the prices are out of sight. They have enough to deal with in their lives without cost of bras being added. I could go on for sometime but this is the biggest reason we have over a thousand members who are serious about sewing lingerie that fits them. Later, Weezie weezie
