It's only an iron, but what an iron!! I was really needing a new one, as I dropped my other one a few times and it started to leak, so I was using my mom's OLD OLD GE. I wanted a Rowenta, until I started reading all your opinions on irons, so I decided to take a chance and get the Conair DPP3000. It arrived today and its WONDERFUL. My husband gets a kick out of the headlight. I am thrilled with it. And I also splurged at our fabric store that was having a 50% sale and got a set of Olfa weights and mini weights and a new pincushion so I can label it for my machine needles. So I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that gave their opinions on the irons. This place is the best.

The most expensive iron isn't always the best...( Consumer Reports likes a cheap Black and Decker) I use a 28 yr old (wedding present one of -3- irons and I didn't have a wedding) Proctor Silex with a non stick plate and a 'shot of steam' feature...I love the thing to death..

Congrats on your new appliance !!! may you iron without burns for many yrs to come !!!:bg:

Happy for you Laura ...nothing like a good iron...I bought a Euro Steam at a sewing conferance in Toronto 2 years ago...love it ...does not burn a thing...could lay it on silk and walk away and it does not burn...fantastic for pressing sewing projects.

I think I am getting one for Christmas. I asked for a Black & Decker with a retractable cord. Oldest DD usually tries to get everything that is on the list unless she knows someone else bought it or it is too expensive.

Isn't it nice to treat yourself once in a while? I know, we all buy things all the time but it's the usual stuff. It's fun when it's something you can get excited about.

I have one of those $80. Rowentas and fail to see why it's worth the money. I use it for my regular ironing because I found I really needed a non-stick plate for my ironing when sewing.

Good for you, may you and it see many happy projects.

I love giving myself presents. I don't do it very often, but when I do, it's so nice.
I hope you enjoy your new iron (an essential piece of equipment) and other goodies.

Lennie,
Put a teflon shoe on your iron. You'll find it works wonders. It doesn't hurt the iron or fabric. I love my Rowenta because it generates better and more steam than other brands and I need a lot of steam!

Thanks Katherine! I never even thought of that but I believe my Mom had one years ago when Teflon first came out now that you mention it. Wouldn't have thought of that. Where do you find those? :nc:

You should be able to find them at places like Wally World in the ironing board, etc section.
If not try googling it...
