I'd love to make a quilt for my sister, whose bedroom is in yellows and dark blue, in French Country I guess you'd call it. She calls it 'my lover went off to war and never came back and I am still waiting' room. It's very old, antique furniture, cream and all worn looking. The walls have been painted so they look plastered and all cracked. Her bathroom is white tiles with cobalt blue and fleur-de-lis patterns. It's gorgeous. Anyhow, what kind of quilt pattern is going to go with this style?? I want to do it in yellows and the cobalt blue and cream. But I really am stuck as to a 'style' that would complement the theme of the room.

sounds like a wholecloth quilt would go well, some kind of simple Amish pattern maybe or a wedding ring...or Irish Chain....Grandmothers fan? Nothing too complex I would think

Laura, I am thinking that the room is "antique" and therefore you are trying to compliment what your sister has done with a quilt that won't look "new" and out of place. The yellow/blue/cream theme sounds lucious. Why not do a simple pieced pattern....could even be nine patches on point......but I believe the key is going to be just using a cotton batt and quilting the beegeezers out of the baby. Wash it up and it will have that "antique" look. As I said, any pattern would do.......and sometimes the simple patterns end up stunning. Patty

Yellow Brick Road would be nice. The original pattern is made in yellows and blues. You could get fabrics of yellow, blue and cream and I agree the colour scheme is lucious. I like the idea of antique feel as well. Preshrink the material in a weak tea bath? My decorating memory fails me but did/does French country include chenilles? I have a picture in my mind of an old bed with an hobnail chenille bedspread upon it. I will have to remember to have a look through some decorating books I have stacked to throw out. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

Oh, now I can't wait to get some fabric to start this!!! Jan, what is a wholecloth quilt? Is that where the whole quilt is made up of one fabric, pieced and quilted?? And I love the washing in weak tea idea!! Laura

Yup, that'll be the one Laura - the top is not pieced at all but made of one piece and all the detail is in the quilting - fantastic feathers and fans and so on - there are many designs out there http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_quilting_instructions/article/0,1789,HGTV_3302_2757968,00.html gives you a clue on how to make one.

Well, my first thought was a blue and yellow star quilt.. there are many star blocks you could chose from... it makes me think of the civil war era and you said it in your thread "went off to war" ... I agree with Nancy about the Yellow Brick Road. When I was first reading your post that pattern came to mind first. I know whatever you end up doing, it will be wonderful! Julie
