I found this awesome mag. in the bookstore today and had to get it. I have wanted to get into heirloom sewing for a while.
Anyway I was way to excited to find that there was a pullout with patterns inside! However after sitting down to read and reread the instructions I notices that the collar and the sleeve pieces were missing. Whats up with that?

Oh I saw that I can purchase the "kit" but OMGosh for the dress Id love to make my little one the kit cost $164.00  Then I went out on a mission to buy everything but of course all the stores that are listed on the supply list offer the lace, insertion, ect. in the wrong colors:cry: Is this normal or did I just get lucky? I dont want to get hooked on this mag. only to get butthurt everytime I decide to make somthing:bang:

I also went looking for the pattern so that I can get the missing pieces but found that I can only order it with the kit for an additional $9.00 (I need a smiley face that is falling over dead!)

This is the dress I fell in love with http://www.creativeneedlemag.com/kits/nov06/hl/lead.html

Thanks,
Spring

This is quite common. You will need to get the pattern.
Sew Beautiful will include a full pattern if the magazine state pattern included. CN might have only had the instructions for the heirloom or smocked part. Try looking up the Children's Corner on the web. They seem to have a lot of patterns and probably one close to what you want. Chery Williams is another patternmaker.
See if you can find what you want from either one.

Thanks
I will check them out.

The last couple days I have been teaching my self how to hand embroidery. I used a scrap from a t-shirt and it has come out beautiful I wish I had used something else like a dish rag, pillow case, sock anything that can be used instead of this piece of dirty old ratty t-shirt.....lol

Thanks again,
Spring

Hand embroidery is much easier on a piece of woven fabric. If you can do hand stitching on an old T shirt, you are to be commended.

Sew Beautiful also has kits and used to have patterns on a CD. They might still have them. I think a lot of people either don't have the time or just want to do the fun stuff instead of all the preparation of making your own items. I prefer doing my own sewing - but I sure would like someone else to do the cutting out!

Weezy if you find such a person (that enjoys laying out and cutting) let me know. That person would be worth their weight in gold to me.

OMgosh you guys are funny.

I hate cutting!I used to take short cuts when I was cutting my patterns. Once in a blue moon I would prewash and iron, I wouldnt pin the pattern in place. Id just hold it with my hand, I would chomp throught the fabric with the sheer instead of sliding through it...lol I found that once I took all the freaking time to do the prepwork properly my projects came out so much nicer. I guess in sewing there is no room for the lazy man....lol

I guess I'm actually lucky. Married daughter and SIL live with us as he is disabled from an accident, and she went back to college. SIL will cut fabric and patterns out. We both took a class on Celtic quilting, but she had a problem due to schoolwork - he cut the bias strips, sewed and pressed them. I hope to have more time to work with him - he loves the embroidery machine and playing with designs. If either one wants to sew, the only rule is that they use their equipment. I gave them my PC-6500 embroidery machine when I got the Pfaff. Since the software is so different and in some case the machines are too, I don't want any panic calls if they move out!

Weezy,
You have a Pfaff???? You lucky duck you. What do you have? Im drooling over the performance 2056 right now. Hubby and I have decided to sell of some investment properties that we have been sitting on and Im planning on buying it. After christmas Im going to my favorite drool store to check it out.
I have been sewing for a long time but only really got in to it the last couple years and I have been using a brother who I dearly love like she is family but Im ready to play with a machine who is smarter then me....lol

I have the 2144 upgraded to the 2170. This is my third Pfaff. I had a 1471, then a 1475. Got the 1475 for the computer, but the servo motor on the maxi stitches was out of whack, so I sold it and went to Viking. I got the Husqvarna softwate on sale, used it with my 1+, but found I missed the Pfaff 9mm stitches and the ability to program them any way I wanted. Got a good deal on the 2144, and sold the 1+. Since I had the software already, it was a natural. Then I ran into someone who didn't like the 3D software and couldn't return it, so I made her an offer and she took it. I kept some of the stand alone modules from the old VIP, and just got digitizing, and stitch artist.
The Viking had stitches called pictograms - I can see them in the software, so I can probably duplicate them in stitch artist. I kept all my pictogramming books.
The Pfaff hoops are funny. They have a small magnet that tells the machine which hoop you have - therefore you cannot get a Hoop-it-all or any other generic hoop.
If you are looking seriously at the Pfaff, make sure you get a copy of 3D File assistant along with the computer cable. We must have Embird users here, much cheaper than 3D, so ask them.

If you go down to the bottom of the link you will find the pattern is Collars, Etc. Pattern Company's "Toddler Smocked Apron" pattern $9.. You have to read those articles real good because a lot of them will state the pattern and that only the embroidery or lace shaping is included in the magazine..

Good luck with the dress..

I smocked all of my daughters dresses and did an Heirloom christening gown.(she is now 14:sad: ). My favorite magazine and bible was Sew Beautiful. They were very generous with patterns and smocing designs. The magazine that you bought always frustrated me because it was alway incomplete.
I am now babysitting for a newborn GIRL and can not wait to get my pleater and fingers working again.
Life is short, smile and enjoy the ride!
