I have a question about when you make a collar on a jacket with a back facing. So you have the collar sewn to the facing and the under collar sewn to the jacket and you sew around the collar and down the front. I'm wondering if any one has any tips or tricks to get it to lay flat and nice at the corner where the collar meets the jacket (not these corners > > but this one<) You know the little notch in the lapel? I seem to get it right once in a while and not so right often. Anyone got a works every time trick so I don't have to keep taking it out until I get it right? Dorothy |

The trick is in the clipping and cleaning out the corner so that the excess bulk is removed. Sometimes I don't sew throught the horizontal seam allowances but sew up to the corner, raising the seam allowances out of the way as I sew. Then I don't sew the corner stitch I think that is probably cheating but if the garment is bulky it sometimes helps.

Pam -- Once again you come through!! I didn't think of not sewing through the seam allowances but I'm going to try that to make the trimming easier and closer. I can sew tomorrow so that's when I'll do it and let you know how it works. Dorothy |
