Julie has alot of directions for garments to sew, increasing in difficulty as you progress. This is a great place to come to for any kind of sewing question and you're guaranteed usually more than one answer. Welcome to the board. - Maureen.

If you have the time, a beginners class may be a help, especially if you are close to somewhere that provides classes. Once you have some basics, its just a matter of practise and more practise. The gang here are so helpful and lots of fun to be around. Welcome Moo Moo!

Hi I am a beginer to sewing and I was wondering if anyone knew of some good web sites or good books to help me get started. Thanks Nicole. Welcome MooMoo. You will find lots of help here and as you have done you get more help with a specific questions. It helps to own a basic technique book. Most of us old time sewers have one, usually well thumbed and each a favorite. If I were you would check out your local library and book stores and spend some time looking through the books, such as the Simplicity one, though there are others, many with lots of detailed illustrations. You need to think about what sort of thing you want to sew and what you already know about your machine (VERY IMPORTANT) fabric and construction. If you are a rank beginner classes or tutoring will be necessary. If you have some experience try the books. There are several new magazines on the market for new sewers. One is Sew Simple, which I believe is put out by Clothilde, an international notions and fabric seller. Again, spend some time at the book stands. Unfortunately I spent too much time this evening so came home with 7 new magazines - as you can see it never stops!! Also try googling or going to your favourite online book store and search 'learning to sew' or easy projects. Most projects books teach you as you go. Good Luck and Merry Christmas! Let us know how you make out - then you will be helping someone else. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."
