I didn't quite know where to post this questions so will try here and hope someone who knows reads every forum.

My somewhat unsophisticated brother just phoned to say he is taking a vacation to Thailand for the month of January and would I like him to purchase something for me.

There were two things that, for years, I wanted from Asia. I wanted 9 more pearls for my necklace, originally purchased in Hong Kong, but now understand that the cost is not much different than here. I also would like some silk fabric to make a suit with skirt and/or pants an/or tunic. Also to make a few shells.

Does anyone know the quality of silk available in Thailand and the usual width of the fabric - eg. 28 " vs 60"? Big difference. I have had some Liberty cotton for years trying to fit a pattern onto the 28" width. Also what are the names/types of silks available in Thailand ?
Will pastel colours be available? I am a white haired summer coloured person and the yummy hot climate brights make me disappear.

My brother and his wife will be staying with a friend who has a plantation of some sort. This man will not know a thing about fabric and his wife would buy lining silk for a dress if she liked the colour and buy heavy quality silk for a dog coat if she liked it. A lovely person but I have never met anyone like her. She has an odd way at looking at prices and quality. You should see her shoe collection.

I guess I am a fussy shopper but I have so much stuff I never use. Several years ago my son was going to take one of my pearl earrings with him to Hong Kong and Tokyo but the way he looked to be travelling I didn't trust him not to loose the pearl before purchasing more!!

Thanks to any info anyone can give me.:bluesmile

I'm sure there are other sites that have information too.

Well, I can't help you with your question but I do know that many years ago my parents went to Thailand and brought me back a few yards of the nicest silk. I still have the dress I made out of it...can't bear to part with it even though it hasn't fit for years...need to think of something to do with the fabric-it was a beautiful water colored red/pink.

I'm sure help will arrive if the web site posted doesnt' help you.
